Ep. 124: The Top 10 Countries Having the Most Sex
Host: Dr. Kanwal Bawa | Guests: Tiffany and Mia | Runtime: 26:51 | Published: April 24, 2024
Dr. Bawa: It got me thinking about how many other cultures were doing it, or when it was last okay in certain cultures to do it. So I went and I looked it up. I almost fell off my chair because I realized that it isn't even illegal in every state of the U.S.
Tiffany: Are you serious?
The Countries Having the Most Sex
Dr. Bawa: Welcome to America's number one sexuality podcast, Dr. Sex Fairy. I am Dr. Kanwal Bawa, America's favorite sex doctor, and I am here to transform your life. Dr. Bawa: Today we are discussing the countries that are having the most sex. The condom company Durex surveyed 30,000 people from 26 countries, and the results will surprise you. Counting down the 10 most sexually active countries with me are my friends Tiffany and Mia, hosts of the hit podcast Crazy Rich Neighbors. Welcome to the Dr. Sex Fairy Podcast again, Crazy Rich Neighbors.
Mia: Hi.
Tiffany: Thank you for having us.
Dr. Bawa: Thank you for coming back. This time you're in video for the very first time.
Tiffany: This is beautiful. Beautiful facility.
Mia: We're so happy to be here.
Dr. Bawa: Absolutely. And now my viewers can see how beautiful my friends are.
Tiffany: Oh, thank you.
Mia: The hot squad.
Dr. Bawa: Yes. So tell me, ladies. We have an interesting topic today.
Tiffany: We always do.
Mia: We always do.
Dr. Bawa: That's true. Which countries are having the most sex? So do you want to guess for me, Tiffany?
Tiffany: I'm going to say Ireland.
Dr. Bawa: She has an Irish husband.
Tiffany: Well, there are a lot of Irish people and they have a lot of children.
Mia: And I will say Spain.
Dr. Bawa: Well, neither one of you is right.
Tiffany: Okay, Doctor. Let’s go.
Dr. Bawa: I have a list. Coming in at number 10: Mexico.
Tiffany: Oh. Okay.
Mia: My guess was the Latin countries, so that’s why I went Spain.
Dr. Bawa: Well, we do live in South Florida. A lot of Latin influence here.
Mia: Yeah, and it’s very sexy.
Tiffany: It is a sexy culture. Totally.
Dr. Bawa: Seventy-one percent of Mexicans are saying that they’re having sex at least once a week.
Tiffany: Now, is that by themselves or with a partner?
Dr. Bawa: My assumption after reading this is that it’s with someone else.
Mia: Okay. But I would have thought it would have been multiple times per week, not just once.
Dr. Bawa: At least once a week. And coming in at number nine is Spain.
Mia: Oh, okay. There you go. That’s right.
Dr. Bawa: Number eight is a little surprising: Switzerland.
Tiffany: Really? Well, it’s cold, honey. They’ve got to make some fun there.
Dr. Bawa: Number seven: Malaysia. Seventy-four percent are having sex at least once a week.
Mia: Getting laid in Malaysia.
Dr. Bawa: Number six: Poland.
Tiffany: Really? These are shocking.
Mia: I’m saying.
Dr. Bawa: Number five, though, makes complete sense: Italy.
Tiffany: You know what? I thought about going with Italy.
Mia: All that good food and wine.
Tiffany: Those are some good-looking people.
Dr. Bawa: Absolutely. Number four was surprising: China.
Mia: Oh.
China, Russia, Brazil and the Final Countdown
Tiffany: Well, there are a lot of them.
Mia: There are a lot of them, so I guess we should not be that surprised. But still.
Dr. Bawa: Remember, it is not how many people are having sex. It is how often they are having sex.
Mia: I thought they would have been too busy, really just working and being tiger moms and finding time to be overachievers and have sex too. That’s shocking.
Tiffany: Well, you know, as we were just talking on the way here about keeping the spark alive in your marriage, so good for them.
Dr. Bawa: Number three: Russia.
Tiffany: Really? Well, it’s so cold and miserable. Between the vodka and sex, what else is there?
Mia: Yeah. And the women are very sexy.
Tiffany: No comments on the Russians. Moving on before somebody comes and poisons us.
Dr. Bawa: Number two: Brazil.
Mia: Okay, we get that.
Tiffany: The thrill of Brazil.
Dr. Bawa: Eighty-two percent of Brazilians are having sex at least once a week.
Mia: I could believe that.
Tiffany: And the men. Those are good-looking people.
Mia: Yeah. And they’re skimpily clad, so that’s really—
Tiffany: Yes. Very well put together.
And the Number One Country Is...
Dr. Bawa: Number one. Any guesses?
Tiffany: Is it the U.S.?
Mia: I don’t think it’s the U.S. What about the Caribbean?
Dr. Bawa: The Caribbean wasn’t on the list.
Tiffany: Moldova?
Dr. Bawa: No. Greece.
Mia: Oh, no.
Tiffany: Okay. Break some plates.
Dr. Bawa: Eighty-seven percent. They’re number one.
Mia: Okay.
Culture, Privacy and Why Surveys May Not Tell the Whole Story
Tiffany: Unbelievable. But they’re very passionate people.
Mia: Right. Yes.
Tiffany: The fiery Greek people. The Greeks, Italians—it makes sense.
Dr. Bawa: I suppose the Caribbean didn’t make that list. But I wonder, what is it about these cultures that some of them are having so much more sex than others? Like Japan, I believe it’s 15%.
Mia: I read somewhere that especially in Japan there’s an underbelly. It’s a very conservative country on the surface, but totally freaky underneath. There’s a huge sexual culture and ecosystem going on that everybody is a part of, but nobody talks about it.
Dr. Bawa: And with surveys, you have to wonder how many people answer truthfully. So your point about Japan—perhaps they are doing it much more, but they don’t want to talk about it.
Mia: Yeah. Very true.
Dr. Bawa: When I was in Italy last time, I was walking around the Spanish Steps, basically like a reporter, camera in tow and everything, and I was asking people questions. A lot of them said, “Listen, I’ll talk to you personally, but we are a very private culture. I can’t be on camera.” I was very surprised.
Tiffany: Yeah, because you wouldn’t think Italy would be like that.
Dr. Bawa: Some of them did talk to me on camera and they were okay with it. But a lot of them spoke and just didn’t want other people knowing. America is a very open culture where people are free to share, and people share a lot of their private information on social media. So culturally it’s not a big deal here to have people talk about sex openly.
Mia: But I could see Italy. It’s a conservative Catholic culture.
Tiffany: Well, they’re not so Catholic anymore.
Mia: No, but that’s actually surprising because in Europe you have a lot of people who are topless on beaches, and nudity is not as big of a deal as it has been here for so long. So I am surprised that we talk more about it, but we’re kind of prudish about it.
Dr. Bawa: It’s the inverse. That’s very interesting.
Tiffany: So they don’t really want to talk about it, but they’re doing kinky stuff.
Mia: They probably have sex dungeons and things like that. Remember all of those torture chambers that we saw in all of these beautiful towns while we were there? There was a torture museum in one of those little towns.
Tiffany: It would be really fun to uncover the hidden sexual secrets.
From Amish Culture to a Shocking Discussion of Bestiality
Dr. Bawa: Several episodes ago, I had an Amish gentleman on my podcast, and he brought two Amish women with him.
Tiffany: Oh, that’s fascinating.
Mia: I love the sound of that.
Tiffany: Can you believe that? I grew up in Amish country, and now just the big thing is they say they live one way, but they navigate their religious beliefs versus the modern world in all kinds of ways.
Mia: Right. Like, “We don’t use electricity,” but they make it themselves. “We don’t use cell phones,” but it’s in the barn, so it’s okay.
Tiffany: Exactly. The way they navigate their religious beliefs vis-Ă -vis the modern world.
Mia: And recently when there was that government emergency alert, all these secret phones in the Amish community were exposed. People who had secret phones got outed.
Dr. Bawa: I thought that was hysterical.
Tiffany: I’m fascinated with their culture. There was Breaking Amish on TLC, where they could get a taste of the outside world for a while, and then it was like, do you return or not? If you don’t, you’re shunned.
Mia: And there was one that also followed people escaping—getting family and friends out of the community and into normal life. There are whole nonprofit organizations that help them.
Dr. Bawa: Yes, and these three that I spoke to are part of one of those organizations. But one of the topics we discussed was how men are having sex with animals.
Tiffany: What the heck?
Mia: Well, bestiality is a thing, right? This goes back. It’s pictured on ancient carvings and even in India on temples and things.
Dr. Bawa: It’s a thing. It is not normal. Ethically, I can’t agree with it. There’s no consent there. But what I found interesting was that it got me thinking about how many other cultures were doing it, or when it was last okay in certain cultures to do it. So I went and looked it up. I almost fell off my chair because I realized that it isn’t even illegal in every state of the U.S.
Tiffany: Are you serious?
Dr. Bawa: In fact, there is bestiality tourism in many parts of the world.
Mia: Oh, please stop. That makes me sick. There are entire countries where it’s not even illegal?
Tiffany: Oh my God. The poor animals.
Dr. Bawa: You know how Hugh Hefner kept all those animals at the mansion? Well, a book I was reading, written by one of his former butlers, said that this was practiced, allegedly, at the Playboy Mansion when Hugh Hefner was still living.
Mia: As a medical doctor, what are the risks associated with bestiality?
Dr. Bawa: Just the infection alone. They’ve proven that in certain cultures they have a higher rate of genital cancers, and these are cultures that have the most sex with animals.
Tiffany: Cancer? That’s just gross. I never guessed our conversation would have taken this turn.
Dr. Bawa: That’s the Dr. Sex Fairy Podcast. You never know what topic you’re going to get.
Mia: So in the Amish community, if that’s not frowned upon, that’s allowed?
Dr. Bawa: It’s not necessarily allowed, but they don’t seem to make much of a fuss about it. So this person got caught because he was mounting a horse from the back, obviously, while he was on a five-gallon bucket. And the horse bucked. He fell off and broke a limb.
Tiffany: Good for him.
Mia: Good for the horse.
Dr. Bawa: He mentioned to the elders what happened. Then he was basically put in Amish jail, if I can call it that—not jail, but he was not allowed to be part of the church and everything until all the church members said it was okay to take him back. Now imagine this: the whole community knows, everybody’s talking about you.
Tiffany: But the thing is, they have a procedure in place for this.
Mia: I just can’t. As an animal lover, that saddens me to the inner core of my being.
Tiffany: What about multiple partners? Are humans allowed to have multiple partners in that culture?
Dr. Bawa: It’s a monogamous culture.
Mia: What about sex with underage people?
Dr. Bawa: That’s happening all the time. And incest is a big thing in that culture as well, from what they told me and from the research I did.
Tiffany: All in the name of religion, or is it a culture?
Dr. Bawa: I don’t think that religion is telling them to have sex with their family members. I think it’s because their circle is so small. But it is happening. They were telling these really sad stories, both on the podcast and personally in conversations later, that girls were getting pregnant from their dads.
Mia: Oh my God.
A Closed Community and a Wider Global Problem
Dr. Bawa: They’re not going to go outside to the “English,” as they call everybody who is non-Amish. They don’t want to involve the English in their personal matters.
Tiffany: And this is happening everywhere in the world, right? This is not just within their culture.
Dr. Bawa: No, it’s happening everywhere. But this thing about animals got me thinking about other cultures, and I was horrified at how it’s still happening. It’s alive and well in so many cultures around the world. They have actual bestiality hotels.
Mia: No.
Tiffany: The world is a hot mess indeed.
Dr. Bawa: It really is.
Mia: I know. I’m very vanilla. We’re here in a nice little insulated bubble, right? It’s South Florida. There’s a seedy underbelly. We have our crazies too, but we’re not mounting horses.
Tiffany: Wow.
Mia: Did you uncover anything dating back to ancient times?
Dr. Bawa: The Kama Sutra mentioned it.
Tiffany: Oh, okay.
Ancient Practices, Me Too and Modern Dating
Dr. Bawa: Thousands of years ago. So this has happened since time immemorial. It’s just that you would think that now we consider ourselves more civilized, and that we would do better. Maya Angelou said, “When you know better, do better.” And we know better, but we’re not necessarily doing better.
Mia: Yeah.
Tiffany: Do you think it’s boredom? Like with Hugh Hefner—how was the man bored? He had women.
Mia: I guess he got bored of the women. Maybe he invited friends and other celebrities over. It was a sexual free-for-all.
Dr. Bawa: It sure was.
Tiffany: He’s probably lucky that he passed on before the Me Too era caught up with him.
Mia: Absolutely.
Dr. Bawa: I talked to somebody about this recently and mentioned it on the podcast as well. I think we’ve kind of gone in the opposite direction with Me Too. Now, even the office where you would normally meet and possibly date somebody, or out in the world just talking to people, people are more hesitant. I think people are now saying, “Well, I don’t want to be part of this cancel thing. I don’t want to be canceled. I don’t want to get in trouble.” So I think it has not necessarily gone in the direction we wanted it to.
Mia: Well, I think we always swing too far to the extreme and then we learn our lesson and kind of come back to a more moderate place. So I think you just give it time.
Tiffany: And it died down, right? It’s like everything. Something is a big deal and then the next thing is.
Dr. Bawa: That’s true. I find it ironic that as much as we talk about sex in the U.S., we’re not even in the top 10.
Tiffany: Honey, we’re too tired. We’re hustling.
Mia: We also have a terrible lifestyle as far as work hours. Our diet is completely messed up. We’re not a healthy people, so I don’t think we have the gas in our collective tanks for that.
Dr. Bawa: Couldn’t agree more.
Food, Freshness and the Mediterranean Lifestyle
Dr. Bawa: There are cereals here in the U.S. that have additives that aren’t allowed anywhere else.
Mia: Correct. I know. Our food is shocking. Cereals, sodas, preservatives—the way we eat is completely unhealthy.
Tiffany: All the GMOs, too. We’re kept sick and tired.
Dr. Bawa: But in Italy, all this fresh fruit—you could tell it was vine-ripened and sun-kissed. And then you think about the fruit that we have on the shelf. Forget the processed foods. I got some fruits and vegetables Instacarted to my house, and I waited for this Florida avocado to ripen. I could not wait to eat it. It was hard as a rock when I got it. When I cut that, it was black inside. I got a papaya. It was green, looked like a baby papaya, picked far too early. When you cut it, it’s just white inside. I took photos. I’m getting my money back. But what are we doing? Our fruits and vegetables aren’t even fresh. God help us nutritionally.
Mia: To Tiffany’s point, it’s a sad diet. You think about Greece now—the Mediterranean diet.
Tiffany: Right.
Vitamin D, Work-Life Balance and Why Americans Are Exhausted
Dr. Bawa: How much of that diet is leading to the kind of sex they’re having?
Mia: Probably the olive oil, the fresh vegetables.
Tiffany: And the Italian food. Same thing. And sun, all of that. I mean, we’re all vitamin D deficient in this country.
Dr. Bawa: Absolutely. We spend too much time inside in front of a screen, and this is in Florida. Imagine the rest of the country. When people come to me for hormone replacement—or as I like to call it, hormone balancing—I always add vitamin D to their panel. And they ask me why, and I say, “Just trust me.” A lot of people are low, and more often than not they are at least borderline low, if not very low.
Mia: I was told by a Chinese doctor—she has a Western practice and she is a GP, but she also practices Chinese medicine—that when you’re deficient in vitamin D and B12, it can lead to depression and affect your mental health.
Dr. Bawa: That’s true, which also impacts stamina and libido. Who’s going to get it on when they’re down in the dumps? It’s all connected.
Tiffany: I think so much of our lifestyle—also, those cultures aren’t working anywhere near as much as we’re working.
Mia: Correct. Their work life is completely different than ours.
Dr. Bawa: My mother, when she visits me, cannot wrap her brain around our work lives and what we consider okay. And our vacation time here versus vacation time in Europe.
Mia: And when you’re on vacation in the U.S., everybody’s still calling you. You’re still dialed into your emails on your cell phone. When I lived and worked in Paris, I was shocked at how disciplined they were with taking their vacation. The office closed every day at one o’clock. You had an hour, an hour and a half. People were sitting in cafes like it’s five o’clock, having a cigarette, having a little meal and a little glass of wine. It was possible. In New York, I would eat at my desk while I was working. Most nights, I’d be eating dinner at my desk while I was working. The only difference was at night I’d have a glass of wine while I was having my evening meal—still at work.
Mia: And the French shut down for weeks in August. The whole city of Paris shuts down. Everybody takes vacation, and they are not expected to respond to business emails. So it’s a real break and you get to dial off.
Dr. Bawa: See, we don’t understand that.
Tiffany: No. There’s never a break.
Sex, Divorce and the Celebrity Relationship Rabbit Hole
Dr. Bawa: How different we are. In Italy, I went to a store last time I was there—and even the time before, actually—and I noticed that several stores just closed in the middle of the day.
Mia: Yes. It’s time for lunch.
Tiffany: You know what would be interesting? Take all those countries who are having the most sex and look at their divorce rates. Is there a correlation? Are they all in the non-divorce group?
Mia: Yeah. No question.
Dr. Bawa: It feels like it’s divorce season right now. Every time you turn around, you read about celebrity couples after 20 years.
Tiffany: I don’t want to talk about Jada. I’m so over Jada.
Mia: Those two are so attention-seeking. They’re very dysfunctional.
Tiffany: Did you just see this video of Will talking about Jada?
Mia: No.
Tiffany: They were at her book launch. She was all teary. He was there, and he was just like, “I love this woman.” Sort yourself out. Get back to us in a year. I don’t want to be on this journey.
Dr. Bawa: Chris Rock.
Mia: I know. And they weren’t together.
Dr. Bawa: They weren’t even together. “Keep my wife out of your mouth.”
Tiffany: But she claims Chris Rock asked her out on a date or tried to get with her.
Mia: I heard about that.
Dr. Bawa: So maybe that was really what was behind the slap.
Tiffany: Maybe.
Mia: But seriously, I can’t go on this journey with Will and Jada. Those poor children.
Tiffany: Those poor kids who have to live through all of that. Are they going to have functional relationships growing up?
Dr. Bawa: And having to lie and cover for their parents and pretend. I don’t know. Why do we care?
Mia: I don’t give a—
Tiffany: They’re in our faces 24/7. Get off our feed.
Mia: Thank God they took away her Red Table.
What Can We Learn From Greece?
Dr. Bawa: You know where we should go? We should all go to Greece together. But I do believe there’s a correlation, to your point, about diet and work-life balance and health numbers and these stats. I can’t imagine what else it could be, because they’re eating well and they’re sleeping well.
Mia: When you sleep well, you have better sex.
Tiffany: Sure. They’re fiery people. They get it out. If they’re angry, you will know. If they’re happy, you will know. It’s not like they sit with their emotions bottled up.
Dr. Bawa: They are very expressive.
Mia: Maybe we can learn something from the Greeks.
Where to Find Crazy Rich Neighbors
Dr. Bawa: So, ladies, how can our viewers find you two?
Mia: Anywhere podcasts can be found: Crazy Rich Neighbors, or CrazyRichNeighbors.com.
Tiffany: Yep.
Mia: And our Instagram?
Tiffany: Yes, we’re @CrazyRichNeighbors, and also CRN Podcast on Facebook.
Dr. Bawa: Well, ladies, another great discussion down.
Mia: Yes.
Tiffany: Thank you so much.
Dr. Bawa: Thank you so much for coming and discussing my crazy topics with me.
What Should Dr. Sex Fairy Fans Be Called?
Dr. Bawa: So, what are your fans called? Do they have a name?
Mia: No, they don’t have a name.
Dr. Bawa: See, I need my own Swifties.
Mia: Maybe the sexies.
Tiffany: The fairies. The sex fairies.
Dr. Bawa: My elves.
Mia: Yeah. The sexy elves.
Dr. Bawa: The sexy elves. See, when I become big like Taylor Swift, I’ll have my established—
Mia: We have our bougie crew as our community.
Dr. Bawa: Exactly. So we’ll talk about it off camera, and then we’ll introduce your name in the next episode.
Tiffany: There we go.
Recorded Outro
Dr. Bawa: Exploring the countries where sexual activity is most prevalent can offer fascinating insights into cultural attitudes, relationships, and well-being. However, it is essential to remember that the frequency of sex alone doesn’t determine overall well-being. Elements like effective communication, emotional bonds, and personal satisfaction are integral to overall well-being.
