Frequently Asked Questions
Why can I orgasm alone but not with my partner?
When you are alone, you usually know the exact location, pressure, rhythm and length of stimulation that works for you. A partner may not know what you need or may change what they are doing just as you are getting close. Physical changes in sensation, blood flow and tissue responsiveness can make that difference even greater, which is why the Bawa Method takes all these factors into account.
Why can’t I orgasm from vaginal penetration?
Most women need more than vaginal penetration alone to orgasm. Only 18.4% of women in one nationally representative study said intercourse alone was sufficient for orgasm. [2] As women get older, the clitoris, vulvar tissues, blood flow, sensation and vaginal tissues can all change. What once provided enough stimulation may no longer do so, which can mean needing more direct clitoral stimulation, more time and treatment of the physical changes that are reducing responsiveness.
Why are my orgasms less intense than they used to be?
Hormonal changes, reduced blood flow, clitoral atrophy, decreased sensation, tissue changes, pelvic floor dysfunction, medications, childbirth, menopause, surgery and cancer treatment can all affect orgasm. Any change is worth investigating. If your orgasms are weaker, less satisfying or simply do not feel the way they once did, there may be physical changes that can be treated.
Can the clitoris shrink with menopause?
Yes. Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) can include clitoral atrophy .[7] When the clitoris becomes smaller, there is less tissue and surface area available for stimulation and engorgement, which can make orgasm harder to reach or less intense. Research has also found a smaller clitoral glans in women with anorgasmia (an inability to orgasm) compared with women who orgasm normally. [8]
Why does it take me so long to orgasm?
Women generally need sustained arousal and stimulation, and research has found an average time to orgasm of about 13.4 minutes in one multinational study. [5] But if it is taking longer than it used to, there may be more going on. With age, perimenopause and menopause, blood flow can decline, tissues can change, sensation can decrease and the clitoris can atrophy. All of that can mean that more stimulation and more time are required to achieve the same response.
Can postpartum changes make orgasm harder?
Absolutely. A new mother may be healing, breastfeeding, dealing with hormonal changes, pelvic floor changes or pain—and she is often exhausted. She may also not see herself as a sexual being at that point. Her body has changed and much of her physical and mental energy is focused on caring for her baby. Body image, lack of sleep, stress and the enormous shift in identity that can accompany motherhood can all affect pleasure and orgasm.
Can antidepressants make it difficult to orgasm?
Yes. SSRIs, or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, are medications commonly used to treat depression and anxiety. Prozac, Zoloft, Lexapro, Paxil and Celexa are examples. They can decrease sexual desire and delay orgasm or make it difficult to orgasm. [9] Do not stop a prescribed medication on your own. Dr. Bawa will discuss your medications at a virtual or in-office consultation.
Can the BawaShot® help women orgasm?
Yes. The BawaShot® improves sensitivity, tissue responsiveness and sexual function, which can mean more pleasure and better orgasms for most women. It is not only about reaching orgasm. The goal is to help a woman feel more, respond better and enjoy sex more.
Can BawaWave® and BawaRF® help with orgasm problems?
Yes. Dr. Bawa often uses BawaWave® and BawaRF® as part of non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation because orgasm problems are usually not caused by one isolated issue. BawaWave® supports blood flow, while BawaRF® targets tissue health, collagen, elastin and responsiveness. The Bawa Method frequently combines them because better blood flow, healthier tissue and better sensation can all contribute to better function, pleasure and orgasm.
Can supplements be part of treatment?
DSF.me® supplements are an important part of the Bawa Method, not an afterthought. Dr. Bawa recommends them to support circulation, hormonal health, libido and overall sexual wellness because there is almost always benefit to supporting the sexual response from the inside out.
What if I have never had an orgasm?
You are not alone, and help is available. Some women have never learned what type of stimulation their body responds to, while others have physical, hormonal, pelvic floor or medical factors that have been getting in the way. Connect with us. We would love to talk with you about what you are experiencing and what may be possible.
How much does treatment for orgasm problems cost?
Cost depends on what has changed and which combination of treatments will give you the most complete result. Financing and payment-plan options are available because money should not be what keeps you from improving your sexual health, function and pleasure.
Can I start with a virtual consultation with Dr. Bawa?
Yes. A private virtual consultation with Dr. Bawa is a great first step, especially if you are traveling to Bawa Medical in Boca Raton, Florida. She can learn more about what has changed, what you are experiencing and what you want to improve.
