Frequently Asked Questions
How long is considered delayed ejaculation?
There is no universal number of minutes that defines delayed ejaculation. The concern is whether ejaculation repeatedly takes too long, requires unusually intense stimulation, does not occur, or causes exhaustion, discomfort, erection loss, partner frustration, fertility concerns, or avoidance of intimacy.
What is the difference between delayed ejaculation and anorgasmia?
Delayed ejaculation means orgasm or ejaculation takes too long or is extremely difficult to reach. Anorgasmia means orgasm does not occur. A man with delayed ejaculation may eventually finish, while a man with anorgasmia cannot experience orgasm.
What is the difference between anejaculation and a dry orgasm?
Anejaculation means no semen is expelled. Dry orgasm is the common description for experiencing orgasm with little or no visible semen. It may result from anejaculation, retrograde ejaculation, prostate treatment, certain medications, surgery, or other changes affecting semen production or release.
What is retrograde ejaculation?
Retrograde ejaculation occurs when semen travels backward into the bladder instead of leaving through the penis. A man may still experience orgasm, but little or no semen appears. It can be associated with diabetes, certain prostate or urinary medications, pelvic surgery, and nerve dysfunction.
Can I have an orgasm without ejaculating?
Yes. Orgasm and ejaculation are connected but separate processes. A man can experience orgasm without visible ejaculation, ejaculate without a satisfying orgasm, or experience a weak orgasm with little semen.
Why can I finish alone but not with a partner?
Some men become accustomed to a specific masturbation grip, pressure, speed, position, fantasy, or visual stimulus that is difficult to reproduce with a partner. Anxiety, distraction, low arousal, relationship concerns, reduced sensation, medication effects, erectile dysfunction, hormones, and circulation problems may also contribute.
Why can I not finish even when I masturbate?
If you cannot reach orgasm or ejaculate even during masturbation, the problem is less likely to be just a partner or stimulation issue. Common causes include medication side effects, diabetes, reduced penile sensation, neuropathy, low testosterone or other hormone changes, erectile dysfunction, neurologic conditions, and pelvic or prostate treatment. Dr. Bawa looks at these factors together to identify why your response has changed and which treatment options may help.
Can penile sensation loss cause delayed ejaculation?
Yes. A man needs enough sensation and arousal to reach orgasm. When sensitivity declines, he may need more pressure, more time, or much more intense stimulation—and may think he is simply lasting longer when he is actually struggling to feel enough to finish.
Dr. Bawa evaluates the circulation, nerves, hormones, tissue health, medications, and metabolic factors behind the change. Treatment may include BawaWave®, BawaRF®, BawaShot®, hormone optimization, metabolic care, and DSF.me® supplements to improve the internal systems that support sensation, responsiveness, and function.
Why does my penis feel less sensitive than it used to?
Reduced penile sensitivity can be associated with diabetes, neuropathy, impaired circulation, medications, hormonal changes, pelvic or spinal injury, surgery, cancer treatment, nerve compression, and changes in penile tissue. A complete virtual or in-office evaluation by Dr. Bawa can help identify whether the problem involves nerves, circulation, hormones, erectile health, or more than one factor.
Can diabetes cause delayed ejaculation or penile numbness?
Yes. Diabetes can damage the nerves and blood vessels required for penile sensation, erection, orgasm, and ejaculation. Approximately 1 in 3 men with recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes who reported sexual symptoms had delayed ejaculation. [4]
Can low testosterone cause delayed ejaculation or weak orgasm?
Low testosterone can reduce desire, arousal, energy, erectile quality, sexual urgency, and orgasmic intensity. Testosterone is only one part of the hormonal picture. Thyroid function, prolactin, metabolic health, medications, and other factors may also contribute. Connect with Dr. Bawa to understand why you are suffering, and the ways in which the Bawa Method can transform your life.
Can antidepressants cause delayed ejaculation?
Yes. SSRIs and other serotonergic antidepressants are strongly associated with delayed ejaculation, delayed orgasm, anorgasmia, reduced sensation, and other sexual side effects. SSRIs are also sometimes used to treat premature ejaculation because they delay the ejaculatory response. [6] That benefit for one man can become a significant loss of function for another.
Do not stop an antidepressant suddenly. Dr. Bawa can evaluate the timing and severity of the symptoms and coordinate with the prescribing clinician when changes should be considered.
Can antidepressants reduce penile sensation?
Some men taking antidepressants report diminished genital sensitivity, weaker orgasm, delayed orgasm, anorgasmia, reduced desire, or erectile dysfunction. The evaluation at Bawa Medical, whether virtual or in our office, addresses the medication, the condition being treated, hormones, circulation, nerve health, metabolic health, and other prescriptions.
Can pornography cause delayed ejaculation?
Pornography does not automatically cause delayed ejaculation. However, some men become conditioned to constant novelty, highly specific fantasies, or visual stimulation that a real partner cannot reproduce. They may also combine pornography with a very intense masturbation technique. These patterns should be addressed without blaming pornography for every case or ignoring possible medical causes.
Does masturbation cause delayed ejaculation?
Masturbation does not intrinsically cause delayed ejaculation. However, some men become accustomed to a very specific grip, pressure, speed, position, fantasy, or visual stimulation that a partner cannot easily reproduce.
If the problem occurs only with a partner, conditioning may be contributing. If he also cannot finish during masturbation, Dr. Bawa will look more closely for medication effects, sensation loss, hormone changes, nerve problems, diabetes, or erectile dysfunction.
Can erectile dysfunction cause delayed ejaculation?
Yes. A softer or inconsistent erection may create less stimulation and sensory feedback. A man may also lose his erection because the encounter continues too long. In one study, 35% of men with significant delayed orgasm or ejaculation also had significant erectile dysfunction. [5]
Can pelvic-floor problems cause delayed ejaculation?
Yes. The pelvic-floor muscles help coordinate erection stability, orgasm, and ejaculation. Muscles that are weak, overly tight, painful, or poorly coordinated can interfere with the response. More Kegels are seldom the answer because some men need relaxation or better coordination rather than strengthening.
Is delayed ejaculation all in my mind?
No. Emotional and psychological factors can contribute, but delayed ejaculation should not automatically be dismissed as psychological. Medications, diabetes, neuropathy, reduced sensation, erectile dysfunction, hormones, pelvic injury, surgery, cancer treatment, and metabolic disease can all play a role.
Does delayed ejaculation affect the partner?
Yes. Prolonged stimulation can become tiring, uncomfortable, frustrating, or painful. A partner may become sore or raw and feel pressure to continue after the experience has stopped being pleasurable. The partner may also interpret the problem as a lack of attraction or personal failure. Effective treatment should improve intimacy for both partners.
Can delayed ejaculation affect fertility?
Yes. A man who cannot ejaculate during intercourse may have difficulty depositing semen when attempting pregnancy. Anejaculation, retrograde ejaculation, reduced semen volume, diabetes, medications, pelvic surgery, and neurologic conditions may also affect fertility.
Can prostate surgery or radiation change orgasm and ejaculation?
Yes. After radical prostatectomy, men no longer ejaculate semen because the prostate and seminal vesicles have been removed. They may still experience a dry orgasm, but orgasmic intensity, penile sensation, erectile function, and fertility can also change.
Radiation can also reduce or eliminate ejaculation over time; one study found that 89% of men were unable to ejaculate 5 years after prostate radiation. [3] Dr. Bawa evaluates the complete sexual effects of prostate cancer treatment and creates a personalized plan to improve circulation, tissue health, sensation, erections, orgasm, and confidence.

Is there an approved medication specifically for delayed ejaculation?
There is no single FDA-approved medication for delayed ejaculation because the cause varies. Dr. Bawa incorporates DSF.me® supplements to support circulation, hormones, energy, desire, and responsiveness as part of a personalized treatment plan. Schedule a consultation to find out which options may help you feel, respond, and finish more easily.
Can BawaWave®, BawaRF®, or BawaShot® help?
Dr. Bawa incorporates BawaWave®, BawaRF®, and BawaShot® to counter impaired circulation, declining tissue health, reduced responsiveness, sensation changes, or erectile dysfunction. The appropriate treatment or combination depends on the complete evaluation. These treatments are used as part of a personalized plan to improve function from the inside out rather than temporarily masking one symptom.
Can DSF.me® supplements help delayed ejaculation or sensation loss?
DSF.me® supplements support circulation, nitric oxide, testosterone, hormones, metabolism, energy, desire, responsiveness, and other internal systems involved in sexual function. Dr. Bawa incorporates them into a complete plan based on symptoms, laboratory testing, medications, medical history, and treatment goals.
Can delayed ejaculation and sensation loss be treated?
Many men experience meaningful improvement when the underlying contributors are correctly identified and treated. Treatment may include BawaWave®, BawaRF®, BawaShot®, hormone optimization, metabolic treatment, erectile dysfunction care, pelvic-floor care, DSF.me® supplements, medication coordination, stimulation changes, or a personalized combination. The first step is determining why the response has changed.
How much does treatment cost?
Cost depends on the cause and the treatment plan. Some men need one focused treatment; others benefit from a combination of procedures, hormone or metabolic care, pelvic treatment, and DSF.me® supplements.
Bawa Medical offers virtual and in-office consultations to review options, costs, and financing. Money should not keep you from finding out what may be possible.
Does Bawa Medical offer financing?
Yes. Bawa Medical offers multiple financing programs and flexible payment-plan options. After Dr. Bawa determines which treatments belong in the plan, the team can explain the available programs. Financing can make it easier to begin comprehensive care rather than postponing treatment or choosing an incomplete approach based only on the lowest immediate cost.
Can I begin with a virtual consultation?
Yes. A private virtual consultation allows Dr. Bawa to review symptoms, medications, medical history, previous treatments, laboratory results, cancer history, and goals. She can then determine which testing, evaluations, or in-office treatments may be needed. Virtual consultations are especially valuable for men traveling from outside South Florida or internationally.
