[01:15] What Erectile Dysfunction Really Is

Dr. Bawa: To get started on our discussion about “When Even Viagra Doesn’t Get It Up,” we must first discuss what erectile dysfunction or ED is. When you can’t get an erection hard enough for sex, or lose your erection too soon, that, my friends, is ED. The most common cause of ED is blockages in blood vessels that keep your penis from filling enough for a good, hard, long-lasting erection.

[02:07] How Viagra Became an ED Medication

Dr. Bawa: So how did the little blue pill Viagra enter the picture as an ED medication? Viagra was first invented in 1989 as a high blood pressure and chest pain medication. Subsequent studies found that while it did not seem to be a great medication for the intended purpose, the men taking part in the study were reporting better erections. In 1996 the drug company Pfizer patented it in the United States. In 1998 it received FDA approval for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. In 2003 a new ED drug called Cialis came on the market.

Dr. Bawa: These medications appeared to be the answer to both men's and their partner’s prayers, but how were they making penises hard?

[03:10] How Viagra and Cialis Affect Blood Flow

Dr. Bawa: As I mentioned earlier, the most common cause of ED is blockages inside blood vessels. What this does is reduce the amount of blood flow to the penis because not as much blood can get around the blockage. Viagra and Cialis work by the process of vasodilation or widening your blood vessel. Now more blood can flow around the blockage than previously. You have not fixed the problem and taken away the blockage. You are simply putting a Band-Aid on the problem and widening the blood vessel.

[04:08] Why Viagra Can Stop Working

Dr. Bawa: What happens is that you think your problem has been solved. In reality, the blockage or plaque keeps increasing over time. For some people Viagra and Cialis don't work to begin with. According to Pfizer, Viagra simply does not work in 3 out of 10 men. They have ED due to a different reason, and we will get into that on a future episode. For some people, Viagra and Cialis do work initially but then slowly stop working. In these people, the blockage has grown over time. The blood vessel can only stretch so much with the medications, and these men find that their ED is back, and there to stay.

[05:18] When Increasing the Dose Does Not Fix the Problem

Dr. Bawa: Last week a gentleman flew to see me from California, and said, “Dr. Bawa, Viagra used to work so well for me, and then it just stopped working. I took more Viagra thinking that might help. All that did was give me dangerously low blood pressure and headaches. It still didn’t fix my erection problem.” Sadly, his story is very common.

Dr. Bawa: You see, he thought he was fixing the problem, and when Viagra stopped working, he was disappointed, and understandably so. His doctor had never explained to him that this was not a cure. This was just a short-term treatment that does not fix the root cause. It gave him a false sense of security while the blockages continued to grow.

Dr. Bawa: He heard this podcast, and flew across the country to see me because I am doing two incredible treatments that are actually addressing the problem, and giving men the erections of their dreams. Without further ado, let’s talk about how to fix the problem itself.

[06:22] BawaWave and BawaShot

Dr. Bawa: At my Boca Raton, Florida practice Bawa Medical, I address ED from various approaches. Today we will discuss the BawaWave and BawaShot treatments, and how they make your penis work better. Of note, BawaWave and BawaShot are just as helpful for women.

Dr. Bawa: I was telling a patient in my office just the other day that blood vessels are like the plumbing in a house. The most common cause of low water pressure is clogged pipes. The most common cause of erectile dysfunction is clogged blood vessels. You can replace the plumbing in a house but you are stuck with the blood vessels you were born with. You can, however, unclog them.

[07:12] How BawaWave Works

Dr. Bawa: BawaWave is my proprietary technique that uses shockwave therapy to break down the blockages in the blood vessels directly responsible for erections. Shockwave therapy sounds painful, but it is completely painless. You don't even require any numbing for it when using my protocol. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes for the treatment, and I recommend a series of six to start. The more you do, the better it gets.

Dr. Bawa: For those of you who live in other cities, we personalize the protocol for you. Many people, both male and female, fly in and do several treatments at a time. Blockages are blockages whether in a man or woman. They hurt sexual function and reduce pleasure. BawaWave helps you fix the problem itself, and get blood flowing like it is supposed to.

Dr. Bawa: This helps a man get better erections because an erection, at its most basic, is increased blood flow into the penis, and decreased flow out of it. Sometimes our patients get erections during the treatment itself, and they feel embarrassed. We have to reassure them that it is quite OK, and tell them that it is simply a sign that the treatment is working like it is supposed to. Not only is there no downtime after the treatment, we encourage our patients to have sex on the day of the treatment. With an increase in blood flow, they are likely to have better erections immediately after the treatment, and definitely in the long run.

[08:43] How the BawaShot Works

Dr. Bawa: Next let's talk about the BawaShot treatment. I’m sure you have heard about growth factor and stem cells but did you know that you can use your own to get better sexual function and enhance pleasure? The BawaShot is for both men and women as well. In men I inject the penis itself, and in women I inject the clitoris and the vagina. I know it sounds painful but my proprietary technique is shockingly painless.

Dr. Bawa: We draw blood from your arm like any other routine blood draw and spin that blood in a centrifuge. This separates the blood from the platelet-rich plasma or PRP. We then convert it into platelet-rich fibrin or PRF which is stronger than PRP. We then painlessly inject that into the penis or the vagina, and use your growth factor to stimulate your own stem cells. We are also using exosomes to turbocharge the BawaShot. We use other products to increase the effect of the BawaShot, and can discuss your options at a virtual or in-office consultation.

[09:56] Rejuvenation From the Inside Out

Dr. Bawa: The BawaShot leads to rejuvenation from the inside out in both men and women, and as a patient of mine once said, “So what you are saying is that I end up with a younger penis?!” That sounds about right! Men have better erections, have less downtime between erections, and enjoy sex more. Women have better lubrication, more pleasure and less incontinence, among other things.

Dr. Bawa: People often ask me if the BawaShot makes penises bigger. While people have anecdotally reported that their penises have grown, I believe that it can only be a subtle change. For a more pronounced and impressive increase in size I recommend the BawaBig penis enlargement procedure created by me. The one instance where I do think the BawaShot increases size is in the clitoris of a woman. A clitoris shrinks over time just like a penis does. The BawaShot does indeed cause a noticeable increase in the size of a clitoris. It increases the surface area of the clitoris and therefore increases the area that can be stimulated. It also makes it way more sensitive, just like it does the penis.

[10:49] Beyond Short-Term ED Medication

Dr. Bawa: Coming back to Viagra and Cialis, I want to remind you that you are artificially manipulating your blood vessels to increase blood flow and temporarily improve your erections. With BawaWave you are actually breaking down blockages and naturally improving blood flow long term. With the BawaShot you are improving the tissue itself, increasing the formation of new blood vessels, improving orgasms, leading to happier penises and vaginas, and so much more.

Dr. Bawa: I know that you are wondering whether you should do the BawaWave or the BawaShot treatment. They are actually very synergistic. Either one works well alone but together they create magic. You see, you need both blood flow and better tissue for great sexual function and pleasure. By doing both treatments, you improve circulation as well as local tissue quality.

[11:31] Jim and Cindy: Restoring Sexual Function

Dr. Bawa: My patients Jim and Cindy came to me when they started dating at 69 and 70 years of age. They were sexually active but wanted better function. Their treatments included BawaWave and the BawaShot for both of them, and they went from 0 to 60 in record time. They are now having sex twice a day, and mind you, at no point did I prescribe Viagra or Cialis. Their story has made headlines around the world. Jim, Cindy and I were interviewed by Insider, and in the article Cindy said, "It's the most satisfying sex of my life," and Jim agreed enthusiastically. "It doesn't get boring or old. It's really magical," he added. He went on to say, "She's vocal. I wouldn't want anyone standing outside the door.” Cindy retorted, "Jim goes soprano when it's his turn."

Dr. Bawa: Not only were these two lovebirds happy with their treatments, they invited me to their wedding. Who needs a Google review when you can have a wedding invitation?! Check out Episode 3 of the Dr. Sex Fairy podcast “The Second Coming: Bringing Back Sex & Passion” to listen to Jim and Cindy discuss their transformation in their own words.

Dr. Bawa: Until next time.
