What the Kama Sutra Says About Penis Size and Function

On Fridays we discuss the Bawa Sutra, my interpretation of the ancient text the Kama Sutra. Last week we discussed the idea of a life of bliss, including blissful sex. Today we are going to discuss what the Kama Sutra says about penis enlargement and erectile dysfunction. Yes! Men have always wanted big penises that work well, and their partners have always appreciated them. Vatsyayana compiled the Kama Sutra in the 4th century AD but refers to texts all the way back to the 4th century BC… and penis size was a thing even then.
Ancient Methods for Making the Penis Bigger
The Kama Sutra says: “Methods exist for increasing the size of the penis, as well as for reviving the ardor of one who has become impotent.” Clearly they had their own thoughts about how to increase penis size and improve function. Let’s focus today on how they thought penises could be made bigger and better. They killed a shuka, an insect, and then rubbed it on the side of the penis. The Kama Sutra goes into detail and says: “The hairs become detached, torn out by the rubbing. They must then be spread out by massaging with oil. This causes swelling. When the swelling is sufficient, let the penis hang through a hole in the bed board so that it gets longer.” It goes on to say that the swelling caused by the shuka lasts for life and permanently enlarges a penis.
Herbs, Fruits and Vegetables for Size and Function
The Kama Sutra says: It then says that by rubbing the penis successively with the juice of ashwagandha, watermelon, eggplant, etc., the penis stays swollen for a month. To make the results last for six months, the Kama Sutra recommends that these ingredients be boiled in oil and then the penis rubbed with that oil. The next section of the Kama Sutra mentions the benefit of pomegranate and cucumber for size and function as well.
The Kama Sutra says: Now I'm sure you are wondering whether ancient Indians were flat out crazy or if they were really on to something. When it comes to rubbing insects on penises, I can't possibly recommend that you try it. I can certainly see some short-term swelling, but I have a hard time thinking of how this could be long term. Pun unintended.
What Modern Science Says
The Kama Sutra says: Next let's talk about the herbs, vegetables and fruits mentioned. Some of these have actually been shown to increase nitric oxide levels… and this leads to better erections. That said, research has not amounted to anything rock solid yet. While it is always good to have a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables, overdosing on any particular kind will not give you the erection of your dreams.
