[00:12] Introduction: Why Men Should Do Kegels

Dr. Bawa: Welcome to the Dr. Sex Fairy podcast. I am Dr. Kanwal Bawa, and I am here, as always, to transform your life. I recently posted a video on my very, very popular TikTok account, Dr. Sex Fairy. I decided to discuss the topic of Kegels in men. Now, that made a lot of people stop and think, because you normally associate Kegels with women, right? Well, I am here to tell you why men should start looking at Kegels more closely. And I have in the studio a couple of guests. One I was expecting, and one just kind of showed up. I am here today with Phil Hersh, who voices over a hundred celebs, political figures, and original characters, in addition to voicing for the podcast A Face for Radio. Phil has been heard on many TV shows, many radio shows. He has even been on the Howard Stern Show.

Dr. Bawa: Phil came today because he is going to discuss Kegels for men with me, and a friend of his just showed up. His friend is called Slick Willie. And what can I say? Get ready, people. It's going to be a wild ride. Welcome, Phil and Slick Willie. It is so wonderful to see you again.

Slick Willie: Thank you kindly, Dr. Bawa. It's great to see you too, doll.

Dr. Bawa: Wow. What did I tell you, people? It's going to be a wild ride.

Slick Willie: You're telling me, like Mr. Toad.

Dr. Bawa: Yeah.

[01:32] The Viral Kegels for Men Video

Dr. Bawa: So let's talk about the video I posted a few days ago on TikTok. And again, my TikTok is Dr. Sex Fairy. Go follow it. I have about 37 million views at the time of this recording, so it will be very educational. It's very entertaining. I talked about the top five reasons why men should try Kegels for amazing sex. That video stands at 1.6 million views at this exact moment. Kegels are basically pelvic floor exercises. It's when you squeeze and contract your pelvic muscles so that you can have a stronger pelvic floor. We are going to talk about what exercises Kegels really are, fact versus fiction, and of course, we are going to have a little how-to session here. We are going to teach Phil and Slick Willie how to do Kegel exercises.

Phil Hersh: Wow. I'm so excited. I've never done this before. I have moved aside.

Dr. Bawa: You're such a novice. The issue is, you know, people on TikTok want to know how to do them.

Phil Hersh: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: I have, what, 15, 20 seconds to tell them how to do this. I can't teach them how to do Kegels on TikTok. I mean, God bless TikTok. It's a great avenue for me to get a lot of information out. But for details, for things like, you know, Kegels, they need to come to the podcast and learn how to do them.

[02:51] Pelvic Floor Problems in Men

Dr. Bawa: So let's talk about the issues that men face when it comes to the pelvic floor. There's urinary incontinence. There's fecal incontinence. There are prostate problems. You know, if you have cancer, you have had treatment and a lot of damage done to the area, not to mention erectile dysfunction. So how are we going to increase a man's function without surgery, without any extraneous procedures, without lasers, without acoustic wave therapy, without a P-Shot? Now, I'm not saying that this replaces those. It doesn't. But it's a good place to start for those people who are either waiting to come see me or are unable to travel because of, you know, visa reasons or this or that. I mean, there are people listening to this podcast all over the world, so not everybody can come to me. But so many of you are, and I'm so grateful. Thank you for that, by the way.

Phil Hersh: You're welcome.

Dr. Bawa: Have I seen you in my office, Slick Willie? Have I missed that somehow?

Slick Willie: You wouldn't miss it if I was in your office.

Dr. Bawa: Oh my goodness.

Slick Willie: You wouldn't know about it. Trust me.

Dr. Bawa: Okay. All right.

[03:56] The Male Pelvic Floor Muscles

Dr. Bawa: So let's talk about the pelvic floor. Okay. Now, what happens to the pelvic floor? As you get older, you're losing function, right? It's not just your face that's going to hell, so is the rest of you. I'm sorry. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but the facts are what they are.

Slick Willie: No, I love a thing about Debbie Downers.

Dr. Bawa: So anyway, let's talk about some medical stuff.

Phil Hersh: Sure.

Dr. Bawa: Even though it sounds a little boring, we're just going to talk about the muscles that are involved, at least some of them. Okay. So one is, these are big words, you know, the bulbocavernosus muscle. That is what you use to push blood into the penis and to squeeze urine out. So that's an important one, right?

Phil Hersh: Oh yeah.

Dr. Bawa: And the other one is your pubococcygeus muscle, and that is how you pee and poop and contract during orgasm. So that's an important one.

Phil Hersh: Sure thing.

Dr. Bawa: And then there's the iliococcygeus muscle, and this one supporting your actual organs, and it's involved in basically the pooping part of life.

Phil Hersh: Yeah, which is super important.

Dr. Bawa: Yeah, you have to, no doubt about that. And these aren't even all your muscles. These are just three muscles that are important. Now you are exercising them by doing Kegel exercises, right? You exercise your biceps all the time, at least in theory.

Phil Hersh: Yeah, no, there's no doubt.

Slick Willie: Sometimes we exercise all kinds of muscles. All kinds of muscles.

Dr. Bawa: No question. So you have to go to the gym to do those. This one, you just have to do wherever the hell you are, which makes it easy.

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: You could do it sitting in a car. You could do it at work, and nobody needs to know what you're up to.

Phil Hersh: That is true.

Dr. Bawa: You can do it no matter what lockdown you're dealing with, and it costs you nothing.

Phil Hersh: Yeah, that's the best part.

Dr. Bawa: That's the best part. Now, this is a good place to start for most people.

Phil Hersh: Sure.

Dr. Bawa: And like I said a few minutes ago, it's not going to replace acoustic wave therapy. It's not going to replace a P-Shot. But hell, it's a great adjunct, and it's a great place to start, like I said. It's another tool in the toolbox. Yeah, another tool in the toolbox. And for so many people, you know, if the finances don't allow it, like I said, or geographical reasons, right, it's a great place to start.

[06:16] How to Do Kegels: Exercise One

Dr. Bawa: So anyway, I think we should probably talk about how to do Kegel exercises.

Phil Hersh: Yeah, that's a very important thing. This is really fascinating stuff, I have to say.

Dr. Bawa: Are you ready to do some exercise?

Phil Hersh: I am. You know, I like a good workout.

Dr. Bawa: So do I.

Phil Hersh: And seriously, anyways, yeah, I think this is going to be very exciting.

Dr. Bawa: Obviously, Slick Willie can barely contain himself, but that's besides the point.

Slick Willie: Well, he's had that problem before.

Dr. Bawa: Okay. So step one. Are you ready?

Phil Hersh: I am ready.

Dr. Bawa: Okay. All right. You have your workout clothes on?

Phil Hersh: Yes, I do. I'm wearing shorts and T-shirt, and I noticed that Slick Willie is wearing sweatpants.

Dr. Bawa: All right. Okay. So think about the muscles you use when you pee, right?

Phil Hersh: Yes.

Dr. Bawa: Now think about the muscles you use to stop peeing.

Phil Hersh: Oh, yeah.

Dr. Bawa: Now let's assume you are peeing. You got to stop suddenly. Think about clenching those muscles. Clench.

Phil Hersh: I'm clenching.

Dr. Bawa: Clench, clench.

Slick Willie: I am too.

Dr. Bawa: Okay. Now hold that for five seconds.

Phil Hersh: All right. I'm holding it.

Slick Willie: Oh, yeah.

Dr. Bawa: Stop it. Oh my God. Oh my God. My podcast has gone to hell. I think that's where Slick Willie might be heading. Watch yourself there, Phil. Okay.

Phil Hersh: So yeah, I'm clenching. Now I do feel it. It's kind of interesting because one of the most difficult things for at least a guy to try to do, especially if you have to go quite badly, say a number one, if you have to urinate, is trying to stop in mid-urination.

Dr. Bawa: That's exactly what you're doing. You're exercising that exact muscle.

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: So you do this for about five seconds. It seems like eternity when you're doing it, but you hold that contraction for about five seconds, right? And you do this about ten times.

Phil Hersh: Wow. And is this daily?

Dr. Bawa: Yes. In fact, you do it more than once a day.

Slick Willie: I do it more than once a day.

Dr. Bawa: Yeah, we know.

Phil Hersh: Anyways, wow, this is interesting. This Kegel session is turning into Kegel.

Dr. Bawa: Yeah. So you do this. Yes. At least twice a day. You know, morning and evening, or, you know, morning and afternoon. Doesn't matter. The idea is to get the exercise in. Doesn't matter when you do it, right? And that's the beauty of it. You can do it anytime. It doesn't affect anything else you're doing in life. You just, you know, stop squeezing. Everyone has time to squeeze. Everyone has time to squeeze. If you can squeeze a lemon into your soda or into your salad, you have time to Kegel, as they say. Yep.

[08:44] Exercise Two: The Muscles Used to Hold Gas

Dr. Bawa: The other thing you do, the other Kegel exercise you can do is think about when you're, you know, thinking you're going to fart. You're in public.

Phil Hersh: Oh dear.

Dr. Bawa: You don't want to fart in public.

Slick Willie: No, I would around Hillary. She'd leave me alone.

Dr. Bawa: Oh my Lord, this is unreal. Oh my God. Woo. Okay. It's like Willie.

Phil Hersh: Yeah, seriously.

Dr. Bawa: Please let me finish.

Slick Willie: Yes.

Dr. Bawa: Seriously. Okay.

Phil Hersh: Go ahead.

Dr. Bawa: All right. So now think about the muscles you would use to not pass gas. Clench those. Hold for a count of five.

Phil Hersh: I'm holding it in.

Dr. Bawa: All right. Hold, hold. Squeeze, squeeze.

Phil Hersh: I'm squeezing.

Dr. Bawa: And that's exercise number two.

Slick Willie: Oh, I'm all about number two.

Dr. Bawa: Oh my goodness.

Phil Hersh: Wow. Okay.

[09:24] Exercise Three: Contract the Pelvis as a Whole

Dr. Bawa: So then the next thing you do is—

Phil Hersh: Yes.

Dr. Bawa: You think about contracting your pelvis as a whole. And you can't do this right now. I mean, I'm sure our friend Slick Willie would love to do this. But a good way to visualize this is if you are standing naked in front of a mirror, okay, and you contract your muscles and you just squeeze, and you almost see your penis lift a little bit.

Phil Hersh: Oh, I felt it.

Slick Willie: I did too.

Dr. Bawa: Stop it. My God, this is unbelievable. Yeah, yeah. So when you do that contraction, now the idea is to try to combine all three.

Phil Hersh: Oh, wow. That's—it's like juggling.

Dr. Bawa: It's juggling.

Phil Hersh: That is—it's going to take some practice. You're telling me. I just hope I don't have an accident. Does that ever happen to a guy?

Phil Hersh: I know it’s a really personal question, but—

Dr. Bawa: No, but you’re trying not to do those things, so you can’t poop if you’re trying not to poop.

Phil Hersh: Well, yeah, yeah, exactly.

Dr. Bawa: Pass gas if you're trying not to pass gas. And we're not telling you to actually stop the flow of urine. In fact, we should probably specify that. Don't do that. Yes. This should be done when you have an empty bladder.

Phil Hersh: Right, exactly.

Dr. Bawa: Pee first, because if you try to hold urine when you have to urinate, you could cause a lot of other problems.

Phil Hersh: Oh, that's true. That is true.

Dr. Bawa: You know, including urinary tract infection. Oh, wow. That's no bueno. No, it definitely is no bueno. Yeah.

Phil Hersh: So basically—

Dr. Bawa: Oh my goodness.

Dr. Bawa: Yes, it is. Well, he speaks Spanish. Who knew? How about that?

Slick Willie: I was with a really hot meter maid once. Her name was Rita.

Dr. Bawa: I'm sure she was hot.

Phil Hersh: Anyways, so that is interesting. So never hold it in in terms of when you have to urinate. Definitely pee. Don't stop in mid-flow, as they say, because, yeah, you don't want to create any potential health issues. I mean, that's definitely not fun.

Dr. Bawa: No, that's not fun. Now, if you think about it, yeah, this seems like it takes forever, but you're doing these for the first time.

Phil Hersh: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: Now, once you get used to this and you get into the flow of things, okay, then it's not so hard to combine all three.

Phil Hersh: Motions. That's true.

[11:37] Slow Kegels and Fast Kegels

Dr. Bawa: And you do this two ways. You need to do this fast, and you need to do this slowly.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: So, I know you're thinking, how am I supposed to do this fast? I can barely get it done, you know, coordinated and do it when I have to do it slowly.

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: How do I do this fast? Well, you can work up to it. So you can start with the slow Kegels, because it takes a lot of coordination initially to think about it and put all the three parts together. But then, once you get good at it, and when it's not so much of an ordeal, then you can graduate to faster Kegels.

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: Now, I'm not saying that you stop doing the slow Kegels. You do a combination.

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: Sometimes you do fast, sometimes you do slow.

Phil Hersh: Interesting.

Dr. Bawa: Slick Willie, would you like to add something?

Slick Willie: I was wondering, if you have a pet beagle, can your beagle Kegel?

Dr. Bawa: What? Oh my God. Oh my God. I'm telling you, this segment should be brought to you by Alpo. Anyways, so I don't know if a beagle can Kegel, but that would be interesting if it can. I don't know if a beagle can Kegel, or an eagle can Kegel. Maybe an eagle could Kegel. Maybe Don Henley. Maybe Don Henley. Who knows? Yeah, it's possible.

[12:54] Kegels Should Not Hurt

Dr. Bawa: But one thing I want to also clarify is that Kegels should not hurt. So that's a very valid point. So if you are attempting a Kegel and you are experiencing pain, say, you know, the backside or whatever the case might be, I think that's when you might want to see a doctor. Yes, because the question is, are you doing Kegels incorrectly, or do you have a problem you hadn't noticed up until this point?

Phil Hersh: Exactly.

Dr. Bawa: So you need to speak to your doctor at that point.

Phil Hersh: I think it's very beneficial. I mean, downstairs, the backside, you know, whatever the case is. But to do all three and to master it, how long do you think it would take to master the Kegel exercises?

Dr. Bawa: Well, that depends on your skill set. I'm sure Slick Willie could do a lot better than you. I'm sorry, Slick Willie.

Phil Hersh: Boy, oh boy.

Dr. Bawa: Where did this guy come from? I don't know, but let me tell you one more thing that you shouldn't have when you're doing Kegels, and that is a urinary catheter in place, a Foley.

Phil Hersh: Ooh, okay.

Dr. Bawa: So if you have one of those in place, don't do these. Yeah, because that could potentially cause trauma or, you know, maybe a higher risk of infection.

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: So we don't want to do it if you have a Foley or a urinary catheter in place.

[14:13] Who Invented Kegels?

Phil Hersh: Who created or who invented the Kegel? I'm just wondering, like, if someone could take credit for that. I'm just curious.

Dr. Bawa: There was a Dr. Kegel, I believe in the 1940s who came up with it. 1940s, I think, or was it 50s? And that's really where it all began.

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: And Slick Willie, would you like to say something?

Slick Willie: Well, back in the day, the great Sir Thomas Crapper invented the bathroom. He was Scottish, and hence the reason they call it the crapper.

Dr. Bawa: Okay, what does that have to do with Kegels?

Slick Willie: Nothing. I just wanted to say Sir Thomas Crapper.

Dr. Bawa: Okay. Unbelievable. Killing me. Well, things I got to deal with. Oh my God.

Phil Hersh: Do you believe I got to ride in the same vehicle?

Dr. Bawa: I'm dealing with on my podcast.

Phil Hersh: No, I hear you. I hear you. I mean, I find this stuff fascinating. I truly do.

[15:04] Sexual Health Toys and the Male Masturbator

Phil Hersh: Now, are there certain exercises on a more personal level, say toys perhaps, that might enhance the Kegel? Would that help a male out on that front in terms of, you know, dealing with prostate issues or something?

Dr. Bawa: Well, I am actually coming out with a toy.

Phil Hersh: Really?

Dr. Bawa: It is a male masturbator.

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: So it actually masturbates for you. You don't even have to get carpal tunnel with your hands or anything.

Slick Willie: I could have used that when I was in the White House. I'd be out of trouble today.

Dr. Bawa: Yeah, you're telling me.

Phil Hersh: Now, let me guess. It's not Fisher-Price.

Dr. Bawa: It's not Fisher-Price.

Phil Hersh: I had a feeling.

Dr. Bawa: Dr. Sex Fairy brand.

Phil Hersh: Wow. That is fantastic.

Dr. Bawa: It's coming out soon.

Phil Hersh: Oh, and do you know where it’s going to be sold, or—

Dr. Bawa: Well, hopefully soon on DrSexFairy.com.

Phil Hersh: Very nice.

Dr. Bawa: We are going through the very last bits of it, you know, packaging and this and that, all the fun bits of it. And in November of 2022, we expect to launch.

Phil Hersh: Wow. That's right around the corner.

Dr. Bawa: So if people want to get on our list, because we are doing a limited release—

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: —and we will sell out. I mean, I had 9,000 people during a quick TikTok Live just last night.

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: I had 13,000 the last time I did a quick TikTok Live. So these will go quickly.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: So if somebody wants to get on the list for the masturbator—

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: —or the penis pump, which is another thing I want to discuss.

Slick Willie: Me too.

Dr. Bawa: Oh my goodness. Then email us at askme@drsexfairy.com, or you can go to drsexfairy.com and fill out a contact form.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: And then, you know, we will put you on the list.

Phil Hersh: Now, you mentioned it was a limited release.

Dr. Bawa: Mm-hmm.

Slick Willie: I never had a limited release.

Dr. Bawa: You don't say.

Phil Hersh: So this is pretty interesting stuff. Now, look, there's some men that are a little bit adventurous. They like to try a few different things, like I said. So this— but, you know, this exercise is interesting. You kind of feel your butt cheeks and everything else puckering up a little bit, and it is a good exercise, you know. And, I mean, I don't know what to tell you.

Slick Willie: I mean, obviously, you think of someone like— I know it's a little bit off topic— Jeffrey Toobin of CNN.

Phil Hersh: I think he's left CNN, but let's just say he had a very hands-on approach when he would do Zoom sessions with some of his female colleagues.

Slick Willie: So I'm wondering if he was Kegeling while he was perhaps self-pleasuring himself.

Phil Hersh: I'd love to know that.

Dr. Bawa: Wow. You really are— you've got a dirty mind.

Phil Hersh: I have a dirty mind? Really? I have a dirty mind.

Dr. Bawa: Yeah, you do. You know, I always wondered about that. What would possess a man to start masturbating while on a Zoom session with the camera on? I just don't get it. There's no rhyme or reason for it. And yet CNN still kept him there for quite a while.

Phil Hersh: Quite a while.

Slick Willie: But obviously he now wants to expose himself to other networks.

Dr. Bawa: Of course.

Phil Hersh: There you go. That's pretty funny. That was good. That was good.

Slick Willie: I've exposed myself to a lot of young ladies, let me tell you.

[18:14] Penis Pumps, Blood Flow and Erectile Function

Dr. Bawa: You know, penis pumps are great, and they're very, very underrated.

Phil Hersh: Interesting.

Dr. Bawa: I think people don't realize all the things penis pumps do. For instance, they help with erectile dysfunction.

Phil Hersh: Oh, wow.

Dr. Bawa: You know, we're talking about exercising your pelvic floor, but what about penile muscles?

Phil Hersh: That is true, too.

Dr. Bawa: Now, the penile, because you have several, of course.

Phil Hersh: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: Obviously.

Phil Hersh: So basically it does the full workout for you.

Dr. Bawa: Well, yeah, but it's also bringing a lot of blood flow into the penis. Because at the end of the day, how do you get an erection? It's increased inflow. Yes. So it's bringing lots of blood into your penis. It's helping you achieve and maintain an erection. Wow. And we tell our patients to keep it inflated for a few minutes. So your penis is now reaping the benefit of good blood flow a lot longer than most men are able to last.

Phil Hersh: That is true. And what is, like, the average—well, I don't know what the average erection would be.

Slick Willie: Speak for yourself, man. Lasts a long time. Long.

Phil Hersh: Okay. Congratulations. Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: But the average man can only last 5.4 minutes.

Phil Hersh: Oh, wow. That's not very long.

Dr. Bawa: That's not very long.

Slick Willie: Enough for a couple of commercials and then you're back.

Dr. Bawa: That's right. And it takes a woman longer to achieve orgasm than that. So therein you have a problem.

Phil Hersh: Yeah, you're right, because then somebody is not being satisfied.

Dr. Bawa: That's an issue.

[19:37] Why Partner Satisfaction Matters

Dr. Bawa: On TikTok, I talked about this, and some people left nasty comments about, Why do I care if she's not done? and Why do I care about this, and how is that my problem? And I thought, how stupid do you have to be to look at it this way? Really. Because if your partner isn't satisfied, how often do you think she's going to put out?

Phil Hersh: Oh, that's a valid point.

Dr. Bawa: You know, how selfish is somebody to think of it that way? That, hey, I got my thrills out of it. Why do I care if she's not orgasming in time?

Phil Hersh: Yeah, yeah. It should be a win-win for everybody.

Dr. Bawa: Yeah, it has to be a win-win for everyone, or it doesn't work. It has to be a partnership.

Phil Hersh: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: I mean, solo sex is masturbation, right?

Phil Hersh: Exactly.

Dr. Bawa: If you're having solo sex, it doesn't matter. But if you're having partner sex, yes, then I think it's a very silly idea to think of it just as, Hey, I got my thing, and I don't care if she didn't.

Phil Hersh: Yeah, yeah.

Dr. Bawa: And some comments were so stupid.

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: And I hate to use the word stupid repeatedly, but they were very stupid comments. Some people said, Well, why can't she come faster? Why do I have to last longer?

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: Well, wouldn't you want sex to last longer so you prolong the experience?

Phil Hersh: Exactly.

Dr. Bawa: And how do you expect her to come faster? She doesn't have an appendix sticking out.

Phil Hersh: That's true.

Dr. Bawa: It takes some work. Maybe you're just too lazy to do the work.

Phil Hersh: That's true.

Dr. Bawa: So I think partners need to be more cognizant of what the other person's needs are.

Phil Hersh: Yes.

Dr. Bawa: Or it doesn't work.

Phil Hersh: Anyways, this is certainly one of the more interesting interviews that I've ever been a part of.

Dr. Bawa: You don't get out much, do you?

Phil Hersh: Oh, boy. This is kind of scary.

Dr. Bawa: So obviously, Slick Willie feels he does not have a problem, that he can help a woman achieve an orgasm.

Slick Willie: I did, in the Oval Office especially. I was the master of disaster.

Dr. Bawa: Yes, you were.

Phil Hersh: I'll bet he was.

Slick Willie: Yep.

Phil Hersh: Totally agree with that.

Dr. Bawa: Interesting stuff.

Phil Hersh: These, the penis pumps are effective in terms of working the muscles. They can help with erectile dysfunction. I think that's an incredible benefit, if you ask me. Great health benefit, in fact.

[21:52] Choosing a Penis Pump

Phil Hersh: So, what are the average prices, say, for penis pumps? I mean, you can probably find them online.

Phil Hersh: Do you sell any personally, or—

Dr. Bawa: Well, I’m developing the one that’s coming out in November 2022.

Dr. Bawa: So within a couple of months, we should have it.

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: Now, the issue is that you could get a penis pump at all kinds of price points. Now, you could get it probably for $30. You could get it for $400, $500. It depends on what is out there, what the price point is. But the problem is that some of them, some of the cheapest ones, you have to manually inflate.

Phil Hersh: Oh.

Dr. Bawa: Like a blood pressure cuff almost.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: And then you have to keep them inflated that way. Now, it may seem like a great idea when you look at the price.

Phil Hersh: Sure.

Dr. Bawa: But now try maintaining that pressure for 10 minutes, for instance. You're going to—if nothing else, if masturbation didn't give you carpal tunnel, using a penis pump will.

Phil Hersh: Oh dear.

Dr. Bawa: So I don't like that.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: I think that's a bad idea. And then when it comes to the higher-priced ones, there's a whole range of them.

Phil Hersh: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: I don't personally vouch for any of them. I think there's no reason why the average man should have to spend so much money, five, six hundred dollars in some cases, for a penis pump. So I have decided that there has to be a happy medium. And I'm coming out with a penis pump that's rechargeable.

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: You don't need batteries.

Phil Hersh: Like that.

Dr. Bawa: Yeah. I mean, USB and everything.

Phil Hersh: USB-enabled. Wow.

Dr. Bawa: And waterproof.

Phil Hersh: Waterproof.

Dr. Bawa: You can have fun in the shower.

Slick Willie: You can also have fun in the sun.

Dr. Bawa: Of course, you can have fun in the sun, Slick Willie.

Slick Willie: Yes. Yes, you can.

Dr. Bawa: And the other thing is that the materials it's made of. How big is the actual capsule that you're putting your penis in? Is it big enough? Because your penis is going to get bigger. So is it big enough for the average man? Is it big enough for a larger man? So my penis pump will also have the right size.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: So it's good for all men, not just the average man.

Phil Hersh: So is it going to be available in multiple sizes, or is it going to be a one-size-fits-all?

Dr. Bawa: It's one size fits all.

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: But it's the size that will fit most men.

Phil Hersh: Wow. That's pretty cool.

Dr. Bawa: Because, you know, a lot of pumps, they may be too small for the larger man.

Phil Hersh: True.

Dr. Bawa: And especially because I do penis enlargement.

Phil Hersh: Oh.

Dr. Bawa: I have some big men running around my office.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: So it has to be big enough for them too. The other benefit of this is that it's something you can do at home, and you don't have to come to the office either because you're too shy or because you simply can't make it.

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: This is something you can do in the privacy of your own home. So between the masturbator, which is giving you pleasure without you having to work for it, and then the penis pump, which is helping improve your sexual function as well in so many different ways, it's a win-win. So you can have fun and have all the health benefits.

Phil Hersh: Yeah.

[25:01] Ejaculation and Prostate Health

Dr. Bawa: The other thing is that men should realize that the more they ejaculate, the lower the risk of prostate cancer.

Phil Hersh: Interesting. So how often should a man ejaculate?

Dr. Bawa: Great question.

Phil Hersh: Oh, thank you.

Dr. Bawa: Studies have—

Slick Willie: Yeah, I wanted to ask that question.

Dr. Bawa: Oh my God, Slick Willie, you need to shut up, my friend.

Phil Hersh: Yes, seriously.

Dr. Bawa: Twenty-one times is a magic number, according to studies.

Phil Hersh: That's a lot.

Dr. Bawa: Twenty-one times now. Twenty-one times a month, not a year.

Phil Hersh: Oh, right, right. Okay, so a month. Oh boy, that's fairly often, if anything.

Dr. Bawa: And if your partner isn't able to have sex with you that often, isn't interested, or you are just too busy to have sex that often, then that's where the masturbator comes in.

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: So you're having fun, and it's actually good for you.

Slick Willie: Yeah, it might save your life to boot.

Dr. Bawa: So yeah, so penis pumps are a great adjunct. So when it comes to care that men can have at home, yes, I think between Kegels and the penis pump and the masturbator, I think there's a lot to be said for that.

Phil Hersh: Yes.

Dr. Bawa: Again, like I've said, it's not going to compare to a treatment you have in office, but something is better than nothing.

Phil Hersh: Exactly.

Dr. Bawa: And this can give you so many benefits. It can help you with lowering your risk of prostate cancer. It can help you increase and maintain circulation. Now, my patients who come to my office are all going to be prescribed these because I can do what I do in the office, but there's got to be some work that you do at home on your own time.

Phil Hersh: Absolutely.

Dr. Bawa: And when your work, your homework is so much fun, how can that be a bad thing? I mean, that's like the best assignment ever, you know, if you think about it.

Phil Hersh: Yeah, it's a great homework assignment.

Slick Willie: I'd rather have the real thing if you ask me.

[26:52] Sex Dolls, Hygiene and More Banter

Phil Hersh: What about a sex doll?

Dr. Bawa: Oh, God. You know those are getting very popular. They do, and especially for men who are lonely or, you know, they might be afraid to try a toy, but they want something that looks like the real thing, if you will. I don't think you'll ever. I disagree with it on some level, but I guess if it keeps you out of trouble, why not?

Phil Hersh: That is true. That is true.

Dr. Bawa: I don't think you're going to catch an STD from a sex doll unless it's not cleaned properly or sanitized.

Phil Hersh: And how do you know about that? I just simply asked a question.

Dr. Bawa: And if you don't mind me asking, you certainly have been with a few ladies of the night.

Slick Willie: Yes, I have, and I enjoyed every minute of it, if I can quote Loverboy.

Phil Hersh: Okay, wow.

Dr. Bawa: My God.

Slick Willie: That was a great song, by the way.

Phil Hersh: You have interesting taste in music.

Slick Willie: Fleetwood Mac's still my favorite group. You know, don't stop.

Dr. Bawa: Okay, enough. I got to cut you off.

Phil Hersh: Well, I think we have to gag our friend. Yeah, seriously.

Dr. Bawa: Like, Willy for a few minutes.

Slick Willie: I love being gagged.

Dr. Bawa: Oh, my God, this is so kinky.

Phil Hersh: You're telling me.

Dr. Bawa: Oh, God. All right. Oh, my God, they're killing me, these two.

[28:06] Benefits of Kegels for Men

Dr. Bawa: So let's talk about the benefits of Kegels for men.

Phil Hersh: Yes.

Dr. Bawa: I think the most interesting benefit of Kegels is that it helps you have better orgasms.

Phil Hersh: Interesting.

Dr. Bawa: And it helps you prevent premature ejaculation.

Phil Hersh: That is important.

Dr. Bawa: Helps you have harder and stronger erections.

Phil Hersh: I like that.

Dr. Bawa: Thought you would.

Slick Willie: Yes, you know what I like.

Dr. Bawa: And again, like I mentioned earlier, it helps you improve bladder control.

Phil Hersh: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: Helps you improve bowel control.

Phil Hersh: Exactly.

Dr. Bawa: So you don't accidentally—I know it's a weird word in English—it's called flatching, where, yeah, where sometimes if—wow, God, this is going to be really odd.

Phil Hersh: I want to see you squirm.

Dr. Bawa: Okay, so when you're—if a man has to pass wind, as an example, fart, as they call it, and sometimes there's a little bit something extra besides the fart.

Phil Hersh: A little leakage.

Dr. Bawa: A little leakage. It helps reduce that.

Phil Hersh: Yeah, so that is important because there's nothing worse than flatching. I'll tell you, it's an embarrassing thing.

Dr. Bawa: And Slick Willie, have you ever flatched?

Slick Willie: No, I have not.

Phil Hersh: Oh, wow. I guess he took that to heart.

Slick Willie: More like fart.

Dr. Bawa: Okay. Okay, okay, enough, guys, enough, enough.

[29:13] Kegels, Ejaculatory Control and Better Pleasure

Dr. Bawa: Seriously, let's talk about how Kegels can increase pleasure for men. This is really interesting. So we spoke about how they can help increase the number of orgasms you're having, harder erections and everything.

Phil Hersh: Yes.

Dr. Bawa: But they literally can help you delay your ejaculation and be more conscious of your actual movements. So you can, in theory, slow down your thrusting. You can control your penis and its function more if you are doing Kegels.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: Now, you may or may not get to slick Willy levels of prowess.

Slick Willie: Not many people can.

Dr. Bawa: But hell.

Slick Willie: I know.

Phil Hersh: Oh boy. See, I started that again. No, no, it's okay. He likes to chime in. He's like a grandfather clock.

Slick Willie: No, listen, I might look like a grandfather and I might be one, but the fact is I may have a little bit of snow on the roof, but there's lots of fire in the fireplace.

Dr. Bawa: Okay. Wow. Okay. Talk about prowess.

Dr. Bawa: So, like I was saying before the multiple interruptions by our friend—

Phil Hersh: I know.

Dr. Bawa: —that it helps you control and delay your ejaculation.

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: And it can also help you have better pleasure itself. So it's a win-win in so many ways.

Phil Hersh: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: So it's helping you have better function. It's helping you have more pleasure. And it's helping you overall improve the intensity of your orgasm as well.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: So it's a win-win.

Phil Hersh: Win-win. Win-win.

Dr. Bawa: We like that.

Phil Hersh: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: Win-win.

[30:35] How Long Until Kegels Work?

Dr. Bawa: You may ask me how long it takes.

Phil Hersh: Yes, and how long would it take?

Dr. Bawa: Well, not how long the exercise takes, but how long it takes to start seeing results.

Phil Hersh: That would be great.

Dr. Bawa: So that could be a few weeks to a few months, actually, depending on, you know, the state you're starting from.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: But it's not immediate. It's not overnight.

Phil Hersh: Right, exactly.

Dr. Bawa: So I don't think anybody should say, Oh, it doesn't work for me because they tried it three days in a row, and now they say, Oh, that's too much work for me.

Phil Hersh: So basically, if you start off doing Kegels and you're consistent, you don't skip a day, probably, I'd say within a few months, you might start seeing results, possibly.

Dr. Bawa: Yeah, and, you know, there are pelvic floor therapists, and they can always contact me as well if they have questions, our listeners, because you need to do these right for them to be effective at all.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: You can't just squeeze, squeeze, squeeze, not squeeze well, and then say, Oh, Kegels don't work.

[31:36] What Kegels Cannot Fix

Dr. Bawa: Now, women come to me thinking that Kegels are going to change things dramatically. They come in with vaginal laxity, or they may have some incredible urinary incontinence.

Phil Hersh: Oh, wow.

Dr. Bawa: Now, when I say vaginal laxity, in common terms, I'm talking about a loose vagina.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: Now, squeezing, squeezing, squeezing is not going to take a loose, floppy vagina and turn it into a pre-childbirth vagina. It's not going to happen.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: A Kegel is good, but it cannot make miracles happen.

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: So let's have realistic expectations.

Phil Hersh: Sure.

Dr. Bawa: So for something like that, or for extreme incontinence, you're either going to need surgery or some significant vaginal laser therapy like what I do at the office. Acoustic wave therapy can also help to quite an extent. But if you have symptoms of that at that level, yes, then Kegels aren't going to fix your problem, but they're still a good thing to do as an adjunct.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Phil Hersh: Because it’s good to have—

Dr. Bawa: A stronger pelvic floor, and done correctly over time, this will help some.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: But it's not going to be a substitute for something like a COâ‚‚ laser for the vagina.

Phil Hersh: Sure.

Dr. Bawa: Or for the man, if he has significant erectile dysfunction.

Phil Hersh: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: He can squeeze all he wants, but maybe he needs acoustic wave therapy in the office. And they have these at-home devices.

Phil Hersh: Yes.

Dr. Bawa: And I wish there was a really good one, because if there was one, I'd have it on my website.

Phil Hersh: Oh, wow.

Dr. Bawa: People say, Well, I have this. Does it work? Well, am I promoting it? Am I recommending it? Am I trying to sell it? No, I'm not. So clearly it doesn't work.

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: At least the ones I've seen don't work.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

[33:15] What Exactly Is the Pelvic Floor?

Phil Hersh: Now, this is, I have to say, it's very fascinating. And now, when you say the pelvic floor, for those that may not be familiar with it, it has to do with, if you could go a little bit into detail in terms of what that definition is regarding the pelvic floor.

Dr. Bawa: Now, the pelvic floor is not just one muscle.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: It's a combination of a few.

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: So we had discussed earlier the different muscles that help you with perhaps ejaculation or help you with...

Phil Hersh: The pooping part of it, you know, this and that.

Dr. Bawa: So different muscles do different things, and urine, yeah.

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: So these are muscles that are located between the tailbone and the pubic bone for the most part.

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: And these muscles will support the bowel and bladder, and that's why it's so important that you exercise them, and that's why it's called the pelvic floor, because it's supporting those organs.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: And so we're trying to exercise these muscles so that then we're helping the urethra, the vagina, the anus. It's all benefiting.

Phil Hersh: Right. It's your core, if you will.

Dr. Bawa: Yeah, it's your pelvic core, more or less.

Phil Hersh: Pelvic core, right.

Dr. Bawa: Yeah, that's what you're trying to exercise.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: So that's why Kegels are such a good thing for men and women. And it's too bad that they've always been associated with women. And men think, A, that I'm crazy, or B, that it's too girly for them to do. But hey, do you want better pelvic health?

Phil Hersh: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: Do you want better pelvic function?

Phil Hersh: Sure.

Dr. Bawa: Well, if you do, then how can this hurt?

Phil Hersh: Yeah, exactly. I mean, and, you know, it feels good. Not going to deny that. I mean, you're sitting there in the chair and you're just kind of practicing. Now, what is the best way? Can you just, like, lie down, or should you be seated? Can you do this standing?

Dr. Bawa: It really doesn't matter.

Phil Hersh: Doesn't matter.

Dr. Bawa: Okay. Good question.

Phil Hersh: Oh, thank you.

Dr. Bawa: I like that.

Phil Hersh: Again, you took that one from me. My God, this is incredible. Anyways, wow, I love this. What a great topic and everything. I think it's very beneficial, certainly are helping a lot of people. Still not sure why people would complain or air grievances in terms of why I need to do this and why would I care if, you know, my partner's not satisfied, you know, that sort of deal. But, you know, you're always going to have that, unfortunately, in life, as they say.

[35:38] Kegel Exercise Recap

Dr. Bawa: Let me go over Kegel exercises again.

Phil Hersh: Yes.

Dr. Bawa: Just as a reminder.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: You have to tighten the muscles that would stop the flow of urine.

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: But you are to not do them when you're actually urinating.

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: Yes, because that is not good for you.

Phil Hersh: No, it's not.

Dr. Bawa: So you're going to clench that muscle, and you're going to hold it for about five seconds.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: And then you're going to repeat that about ten times, twice a day.

Phil Hersh: Wow.

Dr. Bawa: So that's one. And then remember, you are going to try to hold in gas.

Phil Hersh: Oh.

Dr. Bawa: That muscle.

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: Again, I'm not telling you to hold in gas. I'm telling you to use the muscle that would hold in gas. Just the muscle. So in other words, if you have to pass wind, just make sure no one's within an earshot or in a close vicinity. Why are you smiling, Slick Willie?

Slick Willie: Well, let's just say if I want to get rid of the wicked witch, I just let one rip.

Dr. Bawa: Oh my God, I can't believe you said that. My podcast just went to hell. Oh, wow. I just dropped in this moment from number 23 in the U.S. charts to, I don't know, 133.

Slick Willie: No, I'd say 69. It's my favorite number. It really is.

Dr. Bawa: I quit.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: Yeah, wow. And number three, let me remind you.

Phil Hersh: Yes.

Dr. Bawa: The third one was where you stand in front of a mirror.

Phil Hersh: Naked.

Dr. Bawa: Naked. And hopefully Slick Willie won't try to do that while we're still in the studio.

Phil Hersh: Yeah, seriously.

Dr. Bawa: But you attempt to tighten your pelvic floor, your pelvic muscles.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: And you should, in theory, see your penis rise just a little bit.

Phil Hersh: Okay.

Dr. Bawa: Now, I said earlier that you should not be doing this if you have a urinary catheter.

Phil Hersh: Exactly.

Dr. Bawa: I said that this should not be hurting. And you've got to remember that if you're noticing any abdominal tightness, you are not exercising the right muscles.

Phil Hersh: Right.

Dr. Bawa: Exactly, yeah, because it has to be down low, or you're doing nothing for your pelvic floor.

Phil Hersh: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: Or not much anyway.

Phil Hersh: And is there a video that people can watch that you have on your site? I mean, to, I guess, for those that may not be as familiar with the Kegel method.

Dr. Bawa: You know, I don't, but that's a really good idea. I should do that. I should come up with something.

Phil Hersh: No, I want you to show me.

Dr. Bawa: No, no, no.

Phil Hersh: Show me the way. If I can quote Peter Frampton.

Dr. Bawa: No, no, no. I will not show you the way.

Phil Hersh: Yeah, exactly.

Dr. Bawa: But I will tell you how to find your way.

Phil Hersh: Oh, wow.

Dr. Bawa: Look at that.

Phil Hersh: If I can quote Fleetwood Mac, go your own way.

Dr. Bawa: So, you know, it's kind of nice. You could be seated at a board meeting, you could be bored, and you could just be Kegeling and really helping your own health while you're at a meeting.

Phil Hersh: I think that's great.

Dr. Bawa: It's a win-win for everybody.

Phil Hersh: That's right.

Dr. Bawa: If you're bored at a board meeting, do some Kegels.

Phil Hersh: Do some Kegels.

Dr. Bawa: Look at that. How about that? I think that's a great idea. Where did I find this guy?

[38:41] Where to Find Phil Hersh
