[00:02] PTSD, 9/11 & Sexual Decline

Ep. 153: Back in Action: Rediscovering Spontaneous Erections After PTSD

Host: Dr. Kanwal Bawa | Guest: Tony | Runtime: 33:28 | Published: November 12, 2024

Tony: I was there when 9/11 happened. I was there; I saw the building come down. A year before that, I was involved in the shooting at work, unfortunately. After that, I went out to the Middle East, out to Iraq for the Iraqi war. And during that time, I had no time to decompress. So by the time I came back, I had a lot going on on my plate. And during the process after I came back, that's when I started noticing my sexual decline as well.

[00:48] Veterans Day Tribute & Meet Tony

In honor of Veterans Day, today's episode is both a tribute and a conversation about resilience, healing, and the journey of one brave veteran. My guest, an ex-Marine and former police officer, shares his deeply personal story. He opens up about the lasting effects of PTSD, his experiences within the swinger community, his identity as a bisexual man, and how the challenges of today's world impact him. In this powerful conversation, he reveals how the BawaWave, BawaShot, and BawaBig have profoundly changed his life, bringing him not only physical rejuvenation, but renewed hope and connection. This is an episode of courage, vulnerability, and the power of transformation, and I am honored to share it with you. Hi, Tony. Welcome to the Dr. Sex Fairy Podcast.

Tony: Hey, Dr. Bawa, thank you for having me.

Dr. Bawa: It's a pleasure, my friend. I think this is going to be a great conversation. We have talked off-air about this, and I think that people need to hear your story. So thank you for coming in. Thank you for agreeing to tell your story.

Tony: It's my pleasure. Anything that I can do to help the men get out of their bubble.

[03:00] Getting Out of the Bubble

Dr. Bawa: Out of their bubble. That's an interesting thing you said. How long were you in that bubble? What did it take for you to finally call me?

Tony: Well, I was looking for help for a while already because I noticed my erections were getting softer, and I was very upset about it. I was getting into my head, like, how am I going to please my girlfriend? How am I going to do this? How am I going to do that? Well, I like listening to podcasts, and I was going through podcasts when I ran into the Dr. Sex Fairy Podcast. I was intrigued. I started listening, then I started hearing how these guys were getting treatment and how the treatment was working for them. Then I was hearing how these guys were coming from all over the country and from all over the world to come see you. So in my head, I was thinking, there has got to be something here. There has got to be something here. So I decided to call. And here I am, very happy with what I've gone through so far.

Dr. Bawa: And you have become one of the success stories on the Dr. Sex Fairy Podcast. So you have come full circle.

Tony: Yes, yes. I can't tell you how happy I am with the procedure. My girlfriend is very happy.

Dr. Bawa: There you go. Happy wife, happy life, they say. Yes. What do you think the biggest misconceptions about this topic or this field really are?

[04:27] Beyond the Blue Pill

Tony: The biggest misconception is that us men think there is no treatment for this, and that the only solution is the pill, the blue pill, the yellow pill.

Dr. Bawa: For function, you mean?

Tony: Correct. And that is a big misconception. Finding out about the procedures here, BawaWave, BawaBig, particularly BawaWave—BawaWave, I will tell you, is good and it works very, very well. But yes, the biggest misconception is that us guys think there is no treatment for this, when there actually is. I will tell you, I was one of the ones who thought that there was none. I was intrigued to come and try—just try something. I just had to try something.

Dr. Bawa: I'm on a mission to tell the world that Viagra, Cialis, and Trimix, the shot that men give themselves to get hard, have serious potential side effects. You can end up completely impotent. Imagine taking something to get hard, or even recreationally when you don't really have a problem, but maybe you want to perform at a higher level, and then ending up not being able to get hard at all. It's literally a possibility with these. But your average doctor will never discuss it with you. You go to your doctor after years of suffering from this, and instead of going into why you have the problem, the doctor just writes a script for Viagra and Cialis and hands it to you. And that's that. And I am here to change that concept completely. And in many ways, this podcast, as you mentioned, has helped me do that globally.

Tony: Well, the one thing I will tell you is I'm one of those that took the pill and I thought I was fine for a while. But then after a while, it just didn't work. It just didn't work for me. And that's when the panic really started to settle in for me.

[06:26] Why the Pills Stopped Working

Dr. Bawa: And do you know why it wasn't working for you? What happens is that Viagra and Cialis work more or less the same. They are artificially dilating your blood vessel. So the number one cause of any erectile problem is usually blockages or plaque that builds up in your blood vessels. So, because of that, your blood vessel isn't putting through as much blood as it should, so your erection isn't what it should be. So, what Viagra and Cialis do is they make it wider artificially so more blood can come through. But over time, they're not doing anything to fix the blockage. So the blockage keeps getting worse. And so over time, these medicines stop working, and that's the issue.

Tony: It's like a band-aid.

Dr. Bawa: Absolutely.

Tony: That's all it is.

Dr. Bawa: That's all it is.

Tony: And I listen, I can't thank you enough.

[07:17] BawaWave & Rebuilding Blood Flow

Tony: I just can’t thank you enough.

Dr. Bawa: I’m very happy. I am very happy that you’re happy. This is why I do what I do. This is my mission. This is my goal. And you mentioned BawaWave. Now, BawaWave is my protocol for shockwave therapy because not all shockwave therapy is created alike. Shockwave therapy is actually going to go in there and break down these blockages, to kill that plaque completely. A lot of people claim to be doing it, but they’re really not. And what areas are they covering? That’s the other thing. We don’t just do the penis; we’re doing the entire groin because blood flow is a global issue. It’s not just a penis issue. So we are doing multiple areas on your body to help increase that blood flow. It takes time, it takes effort, but it’s worth it. Look at our results. Look at you. So, with BawaWave, when you started getting it, tell me about how it worked for you. Tell me treatment by treatment how you started noticing change, what happened. I’m sure our listeners want to know.

Tony: So the first time I came in here, and I will tell you honestly, I was reluctant to come in, right? I was reluctant about the therapy because, obviously, you know what you're told, and you take it in, but I decided just to take a step back and take in what was going on. So I came in the first day. I got my first session done with the shockwave. And at first I was like, okay, it's not bad. All right, so not painful. Not painful at all. Not painful.

Dr. Bawa: And we did not numb you.

Tony: Nope, not at all. And the first time, I was like, all right, no problem. The second time I came in, I was like, all right, I'm starting to see a little bit of magic going on here. The third time, I started getting what we call morning wood. Morning wood, indeed. I was getting morning wood, and I even got on the phone with my girlfriend. I told her, hey, listen, you know how I've been having a hard time, like, getting an erection. She was like, “Yeah.” I told her, listen, I just woke up with morning wood. She was ecstatic. She was very happy about it.

[09:27] Morning Wood Returns

Dr. Bawa: So literally by the third time, you were going from not having good erections to having morning wood.

Tony: Yes, yes, good morning wood, also, because I'm telling you, it had been a while up until that point. So the fourth time—well, a little background: my girlfriend and I are swingers, and every once in a while we meet up with couples, get together with them, have a few drinks and all that, and we just do our thing. So the morning that we were going to meet the couple, my girlfriend and I had sex, and we were there for a while and I finished. When we went to meet up with the couple in the afternoon, I was able to finish another two times, which, to me—I would say 27 or 28 was the last time I could have finished three times.

Dr. Bawa: And how old are you now?

Tony: I’m 52. I’m 52, and I was able, after the fourth treatment—which people, I know guys would probably be like, “Oh my God, I can’t believe that.” I’m telling you, it’s true. I’m telling you, it’s very true. Three times in one day. I had to pat myself on the back. I had to pat myself on the back.

Dr. Bawa: Good for you.

Tony: And even after that, we kept on having sex, my girlfriend and I, because she loved what was happening—the magic. I call it the magic because it is just amazing.

Dr. Bawa: Fairy dust, baby.

Tony: Yes, that’s right.

Dr. Bawa: There you go.

Tony: So yeah, so we our sex life has been great. It's been fantastic.

[11:20] Swinging, Performance & Confidence

Dr. Bawa: Now you mentioned that you're a swinger, the lifestyle as it's called. Let's discuss the very unique situations you find yourself in and how they require even higher levels of performance. You just mentioned that you had sex with your girlfriend, then you met up with this couple. But tell us what that really means. Like set the scene for us. Explain to us what that performance really entails and how that's changing for you.

Tony: Well, before, I used to be hesitant in meeting other couples because of my performance issues. And might I say this: there are guys in this lifestyle that have ED, erectile dysfunction, but they’re not forthcoming with their issue. We’ve seen them quite a few times. So, my hesitancy to meet with other couples—you know, my girlfriend was like, “Oh no, no, you’ll be okay. You’ll be okay.” So now it’s like, I can’t wait. Let’s go. Let’s go meet other couples. Come on, let’s go. Let’s go have fun.

Dr. Bawa: So it’s changing the game for you.

Tony: It’s changed a lot for me. I’m not hesitant anymore. I’m confident—very confident. I can just walk in and be like, “Hey, let’s go. Hey, what’s up? Let’s have fun.”

Dr. Bawa: And your partners, I'm sure, are more impressed now.

Tony: Yes, yes. So the one couple I was talking about, we've been together quite a few times, and even she noticed the performance. The other partner noticed the performance. I was happy—very happy.

Dr. Bawa: So look at that. Now, you were talking about what happened after the first three BawaWave treatments, and then you were about to talk about the fourth. What happened after the fourth treatment?

Tony: Oh no, what I just described was after the fourth treatment. This was after the fourth treatment. After the fourth treatment, it was a game changer.

[13:16] Spontaneous Erections Again

Dr. Bawa: And you mentioned to me earlier that you have started getting spontaneous erections. Tell me about that.

Tony: The spontaneous erections—I could be sitting watching TV with my girlfriend, and all of a sudden—

Dr. Bawa: Somebody’s saluting you.

Tony: Yeah. My little friend pops up and is like, “Hey, how you doing?”

Dr. Bawa: Hello there.

Tony: And that’s how our sex life has gotten even better.

Dr. Bawa: And it's happened very quickly.

Tony: That’s what I love. That’s what I love. There are no pills, there’s no pain. All you have got to do is really just show up and make sure you make your appointment. That’s about it. Just make sure you show up for it.

Dr. Bawa: Exactly.

Dr. Bawa: Now you have started taking the Dr. Sex Fairy supplements, correct. But you are not taking Viagra, Cialis, or any other erectile dysfunction pill.

Tony: No, I stopped, I stopped that about three or four months ago because it just wasn't doing anything for me anymore.

[14:15] BawaShot, BawaBig & Enlargement

Dr. Bawa: So at this point, you've had BawaWave treatments, you've also had the BawaShot with exosomes and Dysport, and you've had BawaBig, which is a big deal. That's enlargement, non-surgical enlargement.

Tony: Literally and figuratively.

Dr. Bawa: Oh boy. So tell us about that.

Tony: Well, with BawaBig, once everything is said and done, I notice I have girth—the desired girth that I wanted—which I'm very happy with. The size as well. I don't want to sound too fresh, but it's like I'm packing very well down there now.

Dr. Bawa: No, this is one situation in which it's okay to brag a little. It makes me very happy that I've been able to do that for you.

Tony: Yes. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Dr. Bawa: You’re welcome.

Tony: As soon as I was done with the treatment, with BawaBig, immediately I sent the before-and-after picture to my girlfriend. And she was like, “Oh my God, I see the difference already.” I go, “You do?” Because I’m looking, I’m like—because, you know, for us men—

Dr. Bawa: Well, it's also when you're sitting in a chair or a table, you can't really see yourself quite clearly in that moment. You need a mirror and all of that. So you hadn't even had a chance to see yourself in the mirror yet. You just had the picture.

Tony: Correct. And you know, for us men, all we're thinking is, “Oh my, it's not—it's never big. It's never big enough.” When my girlfriend saw the picture, she was like, “Oh my God, there's a difference. There's a huge difference.”

Dr. Bawa: literally, there's a huge difference. Size will also help you in the swinger community, won't it? It will make more of an impact.

Tony: Yeah, there are a lot of couples—I'm not going to say a lot of couples. There are some couples where the women are into size. It is what it is, right? It is what it is, and I don't think I'm going to have that problem anymore. But the swinger community is very picky sometimes in what they want. I don't blame them because part of the lifestyle is, you have your partner, your life partner who you love, but you go meet other couples to have fun, have fun with it, and truly know what you want by having fun, even though you still have your partner, your life partner. Does that make sense?

[16:37] Size, Swinging & Sexual Confidence

Dr. Bawa: Yeah, that makes sense because when you go out to swing, you are looking for that ideal penis size or the ideal tight vagina. You’re looking for no muss, no fuss. You’re there to have a good time, and that’s it. So if the person isn’t able to perform, or the penis isn’t the size you want, or the vagina is really loose and you’re not getting your pleasure out of it, you’re not into that because you’re not there to form a relationship. This isn’t polyamory, right? You’re not there to love them; you’re just there to enjoy the experience.

Tony: Correct.

Dr. Bawa: So this changes that experience for you and for your partners.

Tony: Yes. And at this point now, we're having even more fun with it, especially with the new things that I have. And it's just been fun. We've been having a lot of fun. We've been enjoying it, and I can't thank you enough.

[17:32] Bisexuality & Breaking Stereotypes

Dr. Bawa: This is making my day, really. I’m so happy. You’re so happy. Now, you have mentioned the fact that you’re a swinger, but you’re also bisexual.

Tony: I am.

Dr. Bawa: And for a man who is as alpha male as you are—Marine, police officer—you’re not the average Joe. You are high-functioning, high-testosterone, alpha male, like I said. How does that translate into bisexuality? And what can you tell our listeners about the preconceived notions they have about who a bisexual man is?

Tony: What is the definition of a bisexual man? It could be anyone. You'll be surprised how many bisexual men are in the lifestyle. There are a lot, and they don't say anything. Me, as far as I'm concerned, I'm open with it. If I'm asked, I'll be like, yes, I'm bisexual. I guess they expect me to be a little bit more feminine, wear pink pants, wear a pink shirt, a pink hat, and just start flapping my hands all over. No, that's not me. That's not me. All my life I've always been doing things, helping people, high-stress situations where you have to think right away. And if you see me, you think, “Not him, not him.” But in the back of my head, I'm like, “Yes, it's me. Yes, this is me. This is me.”

Dr. Bawa: Because really, what is a bisexual man, like you said? What is the image we have in our heads? Why do we have these preconceived notions? They make no sense. Because bisexuals are the largest community within LGBTQ, and ironically enough, they are less likely to come out to their family and friends as bisexual than even gay and lesbian people because there's such a stigma around it.

Tony: I just think it's the idea that when you tell someone this, they're thinking, “Oh my God, you're having so much sex with men and women. When are you going to stop?” And that's just not it. It's just having fun. That's all it is. When I came out as bi, it was through the help of my girlfriend, because my girlfriend is bisexual as well. And going through the lifestyle and enjoying it, we always find out. It's like, “Hey, my husband and I, we're bisexual, but my husband doesn't say that he is because he doesn't want to be judged,” or whatever. I'm like, listen, you have got to be free and open about it. So what? Big deal. Who cares? At the end of the day, my girlfriend and I are having fun.

[20:16] Honesty, Pleasure & the Orgasm Gap

Dr. Bawa: You want to have your fun, be who you are. Be who you are. Whatever that means to you, whether it's being bisexual or even being honest with a heterosexual partner, that whatever they're doing isn't working. You know, there is this thing called the orgasm gap. Women very often are not orgasming during sex, but their male partners are. It's the same concept. You have to be honest about who you are and about what your experience is, whether it's being honest about bisexuality or that, hey, we just need to take it up a notch and maybe this is how you can please me.

Tony: I'll tell you one quick story. We were about to meet up with a couple, and when this couple found out that I was bisexual, they were like, “Oh no, we don't play with bisexual men,” blah, blah, blah, this and that. And I asked the male of the couple, I was like, let me ask you something. When you meet a couple and that couple tells you that they're straight, right? And all of a sudden you guys play, and then you find out that he's bisexual. Now what? Radio silence. That's all I got—radio silence.

[21:29] Military Service, Police Work & PTSD

Dr. Bawa: Because you were being honest about it. Most people are not honest about it. That’s an absolute fact. Research has even shown it. You’re onto something here. Now tell me something. You are a veteran.

Tony: Yes, ma’am.

Dr. Bawa: Today is Veterans Day, ironically enough, as we’re recording this at the office. You’re wearing a veteran’s cap and a flag T-shirt. Again, alpha male as they come. Tell me how your experience being a Marine and a police officer has affected your sexuality.

Tony: It actually has a big effect because I suffer from PTSD. I was there when 9/11 happened. I was there; I saw the building come down. Actually, a year before that, I was involved in a shooting at work, unfortunately. After that, I went out to the Middle East, out to Iraq for the Iraqi war. And during that time, I had no time to decompress. So by the time I came back, I had a lot going on on my plate. And during the process after I came back, that's when I started noticing my sexual decline as well. Because I guess it's something with your mind—the PTSD and sexual performance—and it was just bad. It was bad.

Dr. Bawa: You’re tearing up as we speak.

Tony: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: It’s a lot to go through.

Tony: Yeah. I went through a lot, so but I thank God I'm here.

Dr. Bawa: Thank God you're here, and thank you again for your service because we are here safe today because of the sacrifices of the men and women in armed forces and police officers keeping our streets safe.

Tony: Well, I appreciate the support.

Dr. Bawa: I come from an Army family myself, you know.

Tony: Oh, do you?

Dr. Bawa: Oh yes. I was born at the Army hospital in New Delhi, India. My grandfather was a general.

Tony: Oh, wow.

Dr. Bawa: Oh yes, and my dad was in the Army too.

Tony: I must have missed that episode.

Dr. Bawa: Well, I’ve talked about it in other ways. It’s on my website. But listen, there are 150-something episodes at this point. It’s a lot to cover.

Tony: Oh, yes.

Tony: I’m going to have to start from Episode 1.

Dr. Bawa: There you go.

Tony: And I started, like, midway through.

Dr. Bawa: Yeah. So, no, it's a lot of trauma to go through, going through what you have—the Middle East, 9/11. Any one of these issues, in and of themselves, would be traumatic and a cause of PTSD. You've dealt with many of these things. What kind of mental health support have you had?

[24:10] Therapy, the VA & Veteran Mental Health

Tony: Well, right now I talk to a therapist. I also go to the VA and keep up with my doctors there. The VA, you know, they get a bad rap for the service or whatever. But so far with the VA, it's been pretty good. They've changed a lot compared with a couple of years ago. There's more care for veterans. They still have a ways to go. Don't get me wrong.

Dr. Bawa: But they're headed in the right direction.

Tony: They're headed in the right direction.

Dr. Bawa: That’s good to know. And I’m also happy to see that you’ve had help with mental health because so many of our veterans are committing suicide. The numbers are staggering and heartbreaking.

Tony: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: So many men and women who serve us are finding it impossible to survive, that they think that death and suicide is a better option than living their life.

[25:05] Surviving a Suicide Attempt

Tony: I am here to tell you, as someone who tried to commit suicide, it's not the right choice. It really isn't. I thank my son. Yeah, I think he saved me. If he didn't cry, I don't know if I would be here right now.

Dr. Bawa: Hold on, let me get you a tissue. We need to stop this for a second.

Tony: I'm sorry.

Dr. Bawa: No, no, no. No, please don't apologize. This is honest, this is real. I truly appreciate your honesty because men and women out there will see that you can come from PTSD like you have, but live life to still find joy in life and to even find sexual happiness at some point.

Tony: Yes, you know, and I have my kids to thank, my girlfriend, because her dad is a veteran as well, and he’s gone through his thing. But thankfully, he’s in a good place now.

Dr. Bawa: So good.

[26:15] Living With PTSD & Finding Release

Dr. Bawa: And I know what PTSD means. My dad went through a lot in the army, he wasn't there very long. He ended up leaving because of a very bad head injury, but he suffered the PTSD for a lifetime.

Tony: It is a lifetime. It's just the way I manage it. I manage it well. You want to talk about more alpha stuff? I do jujitsu. I do Brazilian jujitsu and I box. You know, I do the typical things that, quote-unquote, “real men” do, right? But the reality is, you'll never know who's bisexual. You'll never know who's gay. Nobody can.

Dr. Bawa: And you don't know who's suffering from trauma like you.

Tony: Exactly. And that's, for me, what I do—it's just a release from that. It releases me from—how can I say it?—it relieves me from me, if you understand what I mean. From my head, where I can go and just do my activity without thinking about anything.

Dr. Bawa: It's a form of entertainment, it's a form of crazy as it sounds, therapy for you. It just gets you out of your own mind for a while.

Tony: Yeah, it does. And this is what the lifestyle provides as well. Crazy enough as it sounds, it provides the fun and the release and the fantasy. And it's always great that I have the proper partner, the right partner, who understands what I'm going through. She's very caring for me. But all that aside, I have a new lease on sexual life. I'm having the time of my life. It's what my girlfriend and I tell each other: we're living the best part of our lives right now. We are living the best part of our lives. Thanks to you. I can't thank you enough. I keep saying it, but I cannot thank you enough.

Dr. Bawa: I'm giving you a hug across this table.

Tony: Virtual hugs, virtual hugs.

[28:19] Sexual Wellness as a Second Chance

Dr. Bawa: Virtual hugs, yes, across the mic. So, how has your view on prioritizing sexual wellness changed after undergoing these treatments?

Tony: A lot. So now I'm actually starting to lose weight. I'm careful what I eat. I exercise a whole lot more because sexual health for me is very, very important now. Especially now that I have this new lease on life, on sexual life, I want to maintain it. I don't want to lose what I've been given. This is the way I see it: this is a gift. This is a second chance. I don't want to miss out on it. And I want to continue to have what I have. I want to be 80, 90 years old and still have fun.

[29:08] SexSpan & Sexual Longevity

Dr. Bawa: I think that’s a noble goal and one that we can help you achieve. I talk about SexSpan, the concept of SexSpan, because nowadays biohackers are talking about lifespan, health span, and those are all great concepts, but what about having good sex throughout? If you are living a longer life, shouldn’t you also be having good sex till the very end?

Tony: Absolutely.

Dr. Bawa: And so that’s why you make complete sense to me when you say that, because people are coming to my office now in their 80s, and I know that I had somebody 90-something, not that long ago, who came in. I even had a lady in her 70s call me from Naples. And while I was doing a phone consultation with her, I asked her how she found us, and she said that she found me on AI. So people find me. Can you believe that?

Tony: Yeah.

Dr. Bawa: So people find me on Google, they find me on the podcast, and now even AI is telling them that I’m the place to go to, right?

Tony: Well, you are. You are the place to go to. There’s no other doctor that’s doing what you’re doing right now, and it’s amazing.

Dr. Bawa: I’ve been a bit of a maverick.

Tony: Yes, you are. Yes. That’s the proper word for you: maverick. Maverick. Because, you know, something that you just said—there is not an age limit to sexual well-being. We’re told by Big Pharma, “Hey, you know, after 40, 45 years old, your sex drive goes down.”

Dr. Bawa: And your performance goes down.

Tony: And it goes down. But that’s not really the case. The case is that when you pay attention to your body and you give it the attention that it needs, your body will respond. But if you’re going to be lazy about it, you’re not going to go anywhere. So, for me, I took the steps that I needed to take, and here I am.

Dr. Bawa: Here you are. Happy, happy, happy, joy, joy.

[31:04] “It’s Never Too Late”

Dr. Bawa: And that makes me happy, happy, joy, joy. What message would you like people to take away from this episode?

Tony: It's never too late. I did this, I'm 52. I'm having fun like I was 27 years old.

Dr. Bawa: So a quarter century ago—25 years ago.

Tony: Yeah.

Tony: And I'm having fun. It's never late. That is the message. It's never late to get the help. It's never late to get the treatment done. Come to Bawa—to Dr. Bawa. Come to Dr. Bawa. That's all I'm going to say. Come here, come to Boca Raton, get yourself checked out, and just get the treatment done. I have no regrets at all.

[31:49] Closing Reflections

Dr. Bawa: Thank you for coming on the podcast, and thank you for being brave enough to be honest, to truly tell your story from deep down within your soul, for talking so honestly about everything that we’ve discussed today. These are big topics. These are heavy topics. And by being so honest, I am sure you are giving other people the license, the ability, to do this for themselves. So thank you.

Tony: Well, thank you for having me.

Tony: And I'm very happy to spread the word, let people know that it's just never too late to get help.
